BMI / SAS codeshare and check-in question
 

I've booked a SAS flight to Stockholm on a BMI flight code (over £200 cheaper than the same flights on SAS codes). The flight leaves at 6.45am on Tuesday 9th November. I've tried to check-in online (on the SAS web site) but have been told that I can't as I'm booked on a BMI code.

Is this true? Is there any other way of checking in before arriving at the airport tomorrow morning?

One other question. I've *A and BMI upgrade vouchers (from the matching BA offer). Can I use them on this flight?

Depending on what vouchers you have you may only be able to upgrade from a certain fare type, I think it says this on the voucher.

I flew MAN-CPH last week with SAS (booked as BMI Codeshare), SAS have introduced a three class service on their flights now. Business, Economy Flex and Economy. The BMI codeshare ticket you have will probably be in Economy which means that you are at the back of the plane with no inflight meal or drinks. You have to pay even for a coffee or water and they do not take sterling (just Euro and Scandinavian currencies and USD).

I would not normally use a voucher to upgrade on a shorthall flight, however it would probably be worthwhile with SAS since the difference between business and economy is pretty big.

I wouldn't upgrade for a shorthaul - but all my longhaul are on a BA and the voucher runs out in Feb. Shame to waste them.

I don't think you can check in online in a BD/SK codeshare.

If you are going to upgrade, though, be aware that most LHR-ARN flights are on MD8x aircraft, meaning that you get practically no benefit of being in C. The seats are the same, none are blocked, and the food isn't a massive improvement.

I believe the original fare class needs to be the more expensive Y / B / H class (it should sqy on the back of the voucher). Ive read reports that some of the cash-strapped US carriers bend the rules on this, but I wouldnt hold your breath for SAS doing the same.

IIRC the 6:45 is a 737. The feedback over on the SK forum is the LHR-ARN breakfast is one of the worst on the SK system and not worth it (though I guess now better than nothing!). Stock up on the nice choccie croissants in the London Lounge and then you won't mind. I burned two of my *A upgrade certs ARN-SVO and it was marginally worth it. Now of course, I'm moving into a positon where I might be travelling more - hey, ho!

Y, M, B, H, S for SAS -- and don't forget, only the *A vouchers -- the bmi Gold Upgrade (which last as long as your gold card) are for bmi metal only!

Y and S are eco flex, B, M and H are economy I believe. The idea of buying a B-class fare and getting stuck down the back with no food! :eek:
