Any BD *G got their pack yet ? ( I'm getting nervy now )

And more interestingly I guess : has anyone tried using an upgrade voucher yet ?

I got my vouchers last Saturday ie 31st Jan and I am BD*G

Am presuming that once again, I shall be sidelined by bmi for this one... I live in hope of a packet of goodies arriving on my doorstep...

Still no sign of my BD*G vouchers. I had my LH*G vouchers (and Mrs. em had her TG*S vouchers) over a week ago.

Do you think BD are only sending them at card renewal time? Or do double-*Gs only get one set maybe?

That would be bad enough : my fear is that they have done some rudimentary DB comparison between the different member schemes and as LH *S I'm only getting that and no *G pack !

Have just received my *A upgrade certs. I must say they appear to me a total waste of time.
1. They're only useful at the gate.
2. Only on very restricted fare classes.
3. So many must have been issued that their value must be diluted.
4. When do you travel with other that your own FF airline what chance will you have against that airline's own FFs?
5.As already said if you're *G you have access to priority check in etc.
All in all a good marketing ploy.
25% miles bonus is the only plus I can see.

So nothing, then, since you already get the 25% bonus as DC elite.

YOWkid Feb 15, 2004 5:42 am

Is the 25% not on top of the other 25%, or in addition to the already existing 25%?

I'm afraid not. From the * 25% Tier Bonus FAQ:

"Q: I am a member of bmi diamond club, do I earn the Star Alliance 25% tier bonus in addition to the tier bonus I already receive as a diamond club member?
A: No, both members of bmi diamond club and Miles & More already receive a 25% tier bonus on all Star Alliance flights. You will continue to receive this as part of your standard programme benefits."

So, for existing members, the whole thing is just a big wet fart, really.

more or less.
You can use the voucher to upgrade from new economy to the business, though.

A Shart then (saw Along Came Polly last night, Philip Seymour Hoffman is the best thing in it).

And the whole thing isn't so bad for lowly Silver members like me - two (count 'em!) lounge access tickets for when I find myself in some far flung location that usually spits at Silvers.

Depends how you look at it. United's UK website offers lwo season cheap-ish fares booked in H class if you reserve a couple of months in advance. In a couple of weeks, I'm off on a holiday trip LHR-ORD-DEN-SFO-LHR and will be trying out the standby upgrades. There is a decent chance that I will manage to get upgraded at least one-way on a GBP400 fare. And if I don't then I've lost nothing.

In August I'm off to SIN and AKL, again in economy, on NZ, booked on an H fare (cost around GBP850). Again, the upgrade vouchers will come in useful, and if I don't get the upgrade I've lost nothing.

Then there are all the business class flights I take with work, where I will be trying to standby for F.

I think it's not a bad deal (unless you're using the vouchers on BD transatlantic to get an upgrade to New Economy). I didn't expect or ask for the vouchers. Restricting them to H fares and above should mean that there will not be a horde of people trying to use them, which gives me a decent chance of an upgrade simply by paying GBP100-200 more for my ticket than the cheaper V and W fares typically available.
