BD transatlantic service wins UK consumer survey

Thought this was a welcome piece of positive publicity for the US routes (and well spun by BD!). For non-UK readers, "Which?" is one of the main UK consumer magazines:

bmi Tops Holiday Which? Magazine's US Transatlantic Flight Survey
Monday March 17, 11:14 am ET

CHICAGO, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- bmi services between the US and Manchester, England were ranked on top in the latest findings of Holiday Which? magazine's listings of airlines serving the US transatlantic market. Holiday Which? is published by not-for-profit Consumers' Association, Europe's largest consumer organization.

bmi toppled transatlantic carriers such as American Airlines, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic to take the top spot. The magazine reports when asked, "Would you recommend this airline to a friend?", all respondents would definitely or probably recommend traveling bmi transatlantic with no negative comments recorded.

bmi provides nonstop service between Chicago and Manchester with connecting service to London (Heathrow) and the Scotland destinations of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. The carrier will reinstate the only nonstop service between Washington, DC (Dulles) and Manchester in June 2003.

bmi Chief Executive Officer Austin Reid said, "We have always been confident our staff are providing our customers with an exceptional level of service and are delivering products that outshine our competitors. This survey and its results, together with the recent findings of the five star rating given by Business Traveller (UK) magazine, clearly provide the evidence that our award-winning success on UK domestic and European routes now extends into our transatlantic offering."

Business class passengers on bmi's transatlantic flights are pampered with their own chef on board. The chef transforms meals into beautifully arranged plates as delicious and creative as dining in any top restaurant. Using convention ovens, steamers and even a saucepan, the chef prepares the meals according to the passengers' preferences. It's a culinary treat that sets bmi apart from its competition.

Operated with Airbus A330-200s, bmi offers three classes of service-business, the new economy and economy-on its transatlantic flights with each passenger having state of the art video equipment, allowing 16 audio and 20 video channels as well as the latest Nintendo(TM) and classic PC games.

Through its code-share partner United Airlines, bmi offers flights from more than 30 US cities to its gateways in Chicago and Washington, DC. Members of frequent flier programs, including United Airlines and all other Star Alliance(TM) carriers, accrue mileage when traveling on bmi.
