BD Gold comp

I have read in a couple of threads about BD mastching BA for silver and gold status. I am a BA gold member for some 8 years know, I also have UAL gold. I would however like to change my European flights from BA to BD and think that BD gold would be better than UAL in Europe?

How do I go about the task of getting BD to match BA

Wingnut Jun 5, 2002 6:33 am

Hi CTEASDEL

I'd suggest calling the Diamond Club on 0870 606 99 77 and asking. I've never done this myself, but from previous posts on this board they're fairly good about it, particularly if you're moving from BA.

I'd suggest probably best not to mention your UA Gold to begin with. They might be a bit iffy about pinching members from other *A carriers (not that I'm suggesting you would be ditching your UAL membership). No basis for suggesting this, just a hunch. They should give it to you purely on the basis of your BA Gold. (You may need to fax statements and the like.)

Welcome to BMI! It's so much nicer that the competition... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks Wingnut,

I have made the call, I first asked how to join and the girl started to quote the rules, I then asked If I was am member of a rival would this give me an status straight away, she asked who so I told her BA gold and hay presto...... one application form faxed with stauts and all done. I hope they live up to what I have heard about them.
Thanks again

I forgot to mention that I will be keeping UAL also.... I use them alot to and from the west coast and no matter what alliance you are in status in that airlines airport is better than a partner

Wingnut Jun 5, 2002 7:55 am

Absolutely. I've just done the reverse to you - I'm BD Gold and have just joined UA (didn't try for a status match though, for various reasons). The reason for my joining UAL was the possibility to upgrade with miles. The BD scheme isn't really that good. The only things you seem to get are waitlist priority and guaranteed seats (plus I supposed those upgrade coupons). (Although admittedly these benefits are enough to make me stay due to my flying pattern).

Still, IMO it's a great airline, despite a rather poxy reward system...

The match is easy, download the application form from their website, complete it and sent it to them with a recent BA statement, as for BD being better than BA intra-europe, I'll leave that up to you.... I myself wasn't too impressed.

ScottC I promise I won't bang on (much...) about my double transatlantic double-upgrade last weekend, but one day I will persuade you of the hidden pleasures of BD. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I read about it! You lucky blighter!!

Tried (unsuccessfully) a few times earlier this year, you must obviously have a special charm to pull this off! Some of us have had to resort to actually paying for a seat in the Business http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I demand a trip report in recompense!

(Or at least, you can tell me if my 1st row bulkhead seats are a good choice http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif)

KenF as requested, a trip report although I admit I'm a bit scant on the detail. The personal chef was good (though to be honest I'm sceptical about what a chef can do with a tiny galley oven at 30,000ft, but there you go...)

Do any of you guys think I could get comped on either BD or UA from KLM Royal ?

CTEASDEL Jun 7, 2002 3:28 pm

It worked for me BA Gold-Gold in 48 hours.....
I dont knoe about KLM, maybe BD wont see them as a competitor? UA will only comp if you show routes that match.

BA Gold, BMI Gold, UAL PE, Hilton Diamond, Freeloader...

If you fly LHR/AMS a lot, I'd have thought they'd welcome you with open arms!

Wingnut Jun 8, 2002 10:58 am

Mike, I'm confused - in another thread you ask about points for a rollaway... so presumably you're already a Diamond Club member?

ajamieson Jun 8, 2002 1:48 pm

Mike I never thought I'd see you on this board. Welcome http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

BD will only comp BA Gold to BD Gold and BA Silver to BD Silver. Nothing else to my knowledge.

However, UA will comp RoyalWing to PremEx, which is *Gold.

I'm still unsure of which is better, BD Gold or UA Gold. UA gives me an elite bonus and a more straightforward program, while BD gives me the four upgrade certificates, the upgrades on transatlantic sectors and much, MUCH better staff. What's a boy to do?

Alastair

Edited to correct my stupid mistakes.
