BMI accuses airports of charging bias

Britain's second largest airline, BMI British Midland, yesterday threatened to take out test cases against several airports for offering preferential charges to low-cost carriers.
Sir Michael Bishop, the chairman, said: "Airlines must be allowed to compete on a level playing field." The fares gap between scheduled and low-cost carriers had diminished over the past year.

BMI had experienced charging problems at Belfast and he cited Stansted, Glasgow and Edinburgh as other examples where special deals had been offered.
