The Final bmi flight.....

Someone on PPRuNe says a water cannon will greet the arrival of the 928 from GYD on Saturday morning.

Not sure if that's the case, but it might be a nice way to mark 'the end'.

That would be nice. They did a similar thing at GLA.

Slightly related to the thread - I was on one of the repainted DBC? planes yesterday - in a 'flame' type paint job with the gold tail. Anyway, it was a proper T5 BA1XXX coded flight. The monitor at the entrance to the plane still shows the bmi logo in all it's glory though.

Indeed it will be.

bmi’s last commercial ‘BD’ flight will touch down at Heathrow on Saturday 27 October. The BD928 from Baku will arrive at Heathrow at approximately 10.30am UK time. It will not only signify the end of an airline era that has lasted nearly 75 years, but will also mark the end of bmi’s tenure at Heathrow Terminal 1, the operational home of bmi for over 30 years.

A special touch have been arranged to mark the return of this final bmi ‘BD’ flight. Thanks to some of our operations staff, it has been arranged for BD928 to land on the runway adjacent to Bath Road, and, as it taxies around to its designated stand, Heathrow Airport fire engines will greet it with a water arch to welcome it home.

A321 G-MEDG will also do a fly-by past Donington Hall, marking the last ever bmi flight.

Leaving the EMA hangar on 30 October will be the fourth aircraft to have been through the transformation. We’re anticipating that this bmi liveried aircraft will do a circuit when it leaves, enabling it to fly past Donington Hall.

Currently BD9522 EMA-EMA is due to depart at 1045L arriving back at 1145L. BD9521 EMA-LHR will then depart at 1300L arriving into LHR at 1400L.

Sad moment.

We had approached BD/BA several times over the last 6 months about securing seats on this flight. Didn't get any meaningful engagement, I'm sorry to say.

That fly-by will be a beautiful sight!

Sad moment indeed! Gutting.

This flight is basically just an extension to what would of just been a ferry flight & will therefore have no cabin crew onboard. No bmi cabin crew will fly after 27th October.

It is a great pity that another flight couldn't of been organized mind you! One of the A330s is just sitting there & could of been put to great use on a farewell bmi flight!

God knows, we tried through various channels.

I reckon we could have filled an A321 without any trouble at all - and with sufficient time and support from bmi/BA, I reckon we could have managed the A330...

I have lurked here for a while, so time for a first post. I have just arrived back this morning from Freetown on BD968. A very sad final flight from there too. Sorry to see BMI go.

I hope some of the press people get some decent pictures of the final arrival.

(And I hope to get an article out for the 27th myself).

Thanks you all at BMI.
