BMI Name may fly on!
Reported in Travel Weekly
"An Aberdeen-based consortium is reported to be closing in on a deal to buy the regional division of BMI.
Granite Aviation is in advanced talks with BMI’s new owner International Airlines Group over the sale of the division for about £20 million, the BBC is reporting.
Aberdeen-based BMI Regional employs more than 300 people and operates 19 aircraft between smaller city airports.
An announcement on a possible deal is expected in the next two weeks.
If the regional deal goes ahead, Granite Aviation could take on the BMI brand when British Airways parent IAG stops using it on BMI's mainstream services.
IAG has no plans to keep operating the regional division and low-fare Bmibaby."

ISTR, though, that the people involved had previously said that they would re-brand to something with a Scottish flavour.

Previous airlines with a Scottish flavour have not exactly set the heather on fire.
This one if it gets off the ground won't be any better.

Good luck to them. The CPH, BRU and ZRH flights are always useful, and may even see some links with *A continuing as feeders to each of those hubs, which would fit the BMIR market. Would still be nice to see a GLA-FRA/MUC connection as well.

Rumour: FlyBE to market BMI regional (Granite) flights
there are rumours that the Granite purchase of bmi regional involves plans around bmi regional flights to be marketed via FlyBE (similar to the loganair arrangements) - i.e. if so also in FlyBE livery.

Can't say this reassures me that much about the long term viability of the BMI name, but I guess it will save them money on repainting the planes
