Z1/2 connection supplements - now also for flights starting in other zones?

As we are all aware of, a flight involving a connection within zones 1 and 2 incurs a supplement of 7,500 miles. So far, so good (or not, but I got used to it...)

Nowadays, the call centre are claiming that this fee is mandatory not only for a connecting flight wholly within zones 1 and 2 (e.g. EDI-LHR-FRA), but for any redemption with just a connecting flight within said zones, even if it starts somewhere else (e.g. JFK-LHR-FRA).

Is this a new official policy or just a case of a runaway agent misinterpreting the rules?

You may have talked to a rookie ICC agent.
Try another agent.

If its a business class ticket, Z3-Z1, it is 18750 miles for C+M.
