If I travel on a CO flight operated by VS I assume I get my SA miles - but do I get membership points for my diamnoclud account as well? I know I DON'T if I book directly with VS.

I'm not sure I understand your query entirely, but what I can tell you is this: Diamond Club status miles are earned on all Star Alliance operated services; as this is a VS operated service, you don't get status miles, but as VS co-incidentally has a partnership with DC, then on this occasion you would earn destination miles.

Thanks. I think you have answered the question. I want to make sure that I get Diamond Club status miles and hoped that by booking and flying on a CO flight I would get these.

BUT what looks like a CO flight turns out to be operated by VS - so although I'll get my destination miles I won't get status miles.

I think this is a bit of a 'con' - you book what you think is a Star Alliance flight and - because it turns out to be a VS service - end up with no ststus miles.

You got it in one. The phrase used round here is 'the metal counts' - whoever operates the plane awards the miles of whatever type they might be. OTOH, in the oneworld alliance, it's the marketed code that counts. So, on this occasion, you've been stung.

European guidelines - and in most civilised places - require it to be obvious that the service is operated by another airline, if that is the case. There'll usually be an asterix or a symbol of some discription.
