20% extra when you buy or gift miles

Dear 21H21J,

You’ve not purchased any Diamond Club destinations miles this year, so why not take advantage of this great offer. Buy miles today and we’ll reward you with 20% extra free.

You can buy miles in multiples of 1,000, starting from as little as £12. Why not buy some miles today and make those holiday dreams a reality. Whether a beach holiday, a city break or relaxing in the mountains, you can spend your miles on flights with bmi or any of the other 25 Star Alliance airlines, to over 1,000 destinations.

This special offer is only available for a limited time. Buy your miles before 13 June 2010 and receive 20% extra free.
Good deal?

Well 20% better than the normal deal ;)

Depends on whether you need the miles or not really.

A cheaper way to earn 20,000 bmi miles would be the AMEX Gold card that has been mentioned on here. You get 20,000 MR points for spending £500 in 3 months and this can be converted to 20,000 bmi miles. The card costs £95, but you can get a large amount (£60) of this back from Quidco. So that would cost you £35 for 20k.

Just before my Diamond Club account closure (I am from The Netherlands) I saw this offer, so bought the maximum amount of miles!
As I am forced to move to Miles & More, I saw this is as a really good offer compared to what Lufthansa asks for buying miles...

Now hoping they will manage to process everything in time before account closure...

modularmayhem May 13, 2010 4:21 am

is this a targetted promo or open to all? anyone got a link?

clubman May 13, 2010 4:42 am

You don't need a link.

Log into your account and go to the relevant purchase miles page where you will see the following "Special bonus offer - receive 20% more miles"

If you don't that means it's targeted but I very much doubt it.

Hmmm its tricky ; as an example and correct me if im wrong;

If you could buy 37500 miles it would cost you £393 approx this would give you enough miles for a cash plus miles return in C to South Africa;

so £393 plus the cas element = £648....then of course there is the tax approx £500 so £1148 total; but then no miles earned; still its not bad depending on the cost of a purchased ticket at the time

A quick search on ITA (which has always been accurate for my award flights) suggests the taxes are closer to £350.

It's actually still very good because you are getting a fully flexible ticket which in the real world costs thousands unlike the heavily restricted discounted tickets to which I think you're comparing it against.

Richey66 May 13, 2010 6:55 am

But the problem like always is availability, you really have to be flexible with your days...or months.

mith May 13, 2010 9:26 am

and you cannot buy 37500 miles ... at least not within one year.
maximim is 24000, so 28800 including the promo miles.

Not really. Small print says:
"Please note that the most you will be able to purchase is a maximum of 20,000 miles, which with the offer of 20% extra free, you will receive a total of 24,000 miles."

Catch23 May 13, 2010 10:53 am

Someone should tell BMI IT - the dropdown allows 24,000 + 4,800 for £288

No-one should tell them, if you ask me...
