Trying to avoid having to be a good friend.....

I have around 85,000 DC miles ready to be burnt on a TATL trip in August. The plan is that a mate and I are going to an airshow near Detroit (anyone else going to Thunder over Michigan?). We weren't necessarily going to fly together, as I want to use my DC miles for a J seat, BHX to DTW, probably via FRA, and he planned to use his UA miles.

It turns out that he is woefully short of even an economy seat and now is going to pay for his seat.

I clearly have the option of buying a handful (5000) DC miles and redeeming 2 economy seats for the pair of us..... what a great friend I am!

Is there an alternative so that I can continue to park my selfish a*se in business, and I help my mate get over the pond some other way?

He has around 85,000 UA miles, and as well as the DC miles, I have around 30,000 QR miles, 50,000 EK Sywards, and around 18,000 IT KingClub miles.

I think this is a fruitless search, but any help gratefully received.

(I'm not selfish really, but I DO like a bigger seat!!! :D )

And if they are your M, presumably you will use your friend's C.

He only needs 55,000 UA miles for Europe/USA roundtrip - 85,000 is more than enough! Maybe he meant that he can't get an award ticket due to UA's *Net blocking?

I had a look myself on UA web-site and it quoted 110,000 miles to get the ticket from LHR to DTW. Is there some way around this apparent 'summer season tax'?

If I could help my mate to use his miles himself, I would STILL be a good friend! :D

He can still buy the beer though....... ^^^

I think its a very nice thing to gift miles to someone for a trip if they are short. I have done it many times for friends and its always an enjoyable trip. ^

Maybe you're looking for standard award availability and not saver?
