Does BMI fly to the U.S. anymore?
Sorry for the dumb question but after an hour searching FT and the BMI site I'm coming up empty. Does BMI fly to the U.S. anymore on BMI metal? Relevant to me because they only charge 75% of the normal redemption miles for children under 11 but it has to be on a BMI flight. Thanks.

The answer is no. You could have saved yourself the hour by consulting the Sticky: READ THIS FIRST at the top of the forum, in particular FAQ No.7, though I'll admit the title isn't the most obvious.

Don't bother searching - just look at the top of the forum for the FAQ. It is covered in here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/bmi-d...e-lounges.html
In summary, bmi unfortunately withdrew their US services earlier this year. MAN-ORD ended in January and MAN-LAS ended in April. They then reallocated the two A330s to the LHR-TLV and LHR-CAI. Hope this helps. |
I may be totally off course here but am I right in thinking last year BMI was due to get some a340's and they were going to expand the usa route?
Any ideas at all if they will serve usa again any time soon? |

Only chance of seeing bmi operating to the US again will be if LH wish to start some ex-UK routes and put the bmi A330s on them in a similar way to the LHR-TXL services. Never say never, but in the current business climate it would be pretty unlikely. |
Last year bmi was looking into acquiring additional aircraft and opening LHR to the U.S. ORD was specifically being looked at.
However, the plans fell through with the current economic climate. |
Just a quick note of welcome to CHICAGOGUY12 to the bmi forum.
As a quick introduction, he was part of the SAS team at ORD who looked after those of us on the MAN-ORD-MAN flights. Unfortunately the SAS base has just been closed there in the past week which is sad news indeed. Once again though, a big welcome and don't be a stranger on the bmi board ^ |
IIRC, not so long ago, there was the idea of BD picking up some of UA's LHR schedule, i.e one daily IAD and ORD rotation. The idea was that it would release UA aircraft to service other, more profitable routes across the Pacific, whilst maintaining slots at LHR. Of course all that has changed over the last 12 months.

Thanks for the welcome!
RAPC, thanks for the welcome, and again, for you kind comments to my former team at SAS.
BD was talking about taking over some UA LHR slots. To my knowledge, as many as two were possible. It would have been great. BMI had a pretty solid product, and I think their premimum economy product was excellent. I dont think anyone beat it out of ORD anyway. |
EI will have some A330's spare soon - perhaps UA will team up with them out of LHR a la the upcoming IAD - MAD route. ;)
I wink, but nothing would surprise me! |
