BW Grandsky Beijing... Not !

I had made a booking for the BW Grandsky and got a confirmation for 10th Sept. My arrival was actually for 11th Sept at 1am, so yes, it is obvious to book for the night before. I even printed out the address in Chinese to show the taxi driver.

But the taxi driver didn't know where it was so I called the hotel. When I did, the operator spoke zero english and insisted that I was not booked. I told her that its booked for the 10th and I can sort it out if she can just tell the taxi driver the address. She basically said, "No booking, you no come" and hung up!

I grabbed the confirmation number and called back and another woman answered who also spoke no English and I told her the number to which she replied that the computers were off. I asked for the Duty Manager and she said to call back at 9am. She too, will not tell the taxi driver how to get to the hotel. And she also hung up. I was too tired to argue so I just booked the Sheraton Great Wall and went there.

I called BW Reservation to verify my booking and the US agent said yes, you do have a booking. So I complained to Customer Care on Monday about the incident...

I received an email asking me how my stay was to which I gladly told them of the experience... and gave them all 1s. I also added that "I spoke as best I can in my pygmy Chinese to the operator who spoke no English..."

Today I received the usual form letter thanking me etc.... and then what followed was a shocking letter from the Manager of Sales...

It reads :

Dear SIR,

Thank you for sharing your story, I want to have the opportunity to you can learn Chinese, as far as you're using the insulting words "pygmy Chinese", I think you are not welcome here. Would you please give self-respect

Sincerely,
I have escalated this matter to BW Customer Relations...

Shocked !

I think the word you needed was 'pidgin' not pygmy. Maybe that's why the Manager felt insulted. Pidgin is grammatically simplified speech.

But I was using the word to describe me and not them..
