I just booked the BW HK hotel and guaranteed with cc. The hotel called me and said that they cannot get authorisation on the card but I said that since its a debit card, it will not authorise unless I am physically there.

And they tried to give me attitude by saying that there are other people wanting to book the hotel...

Can they release my room even though its guaranteed?

Well, what did you (try to) guarantee it with? :confused: "CC' stands for credit card, not debit card.

Hotels often need to authorize way bigger an amount than just the room rate on a card, and thus some hotels do not accept debit cards for reservations, only at checkout.

If they did not run a credit card authorization, you're probably not guaranteed.

Anyway, thanks. Its sorted. Its my first time staying at BW hotels... and it has been interesting...

Bangkok's was welcoming.. and then Beijing's airport property was an experience... "You no have booking, you cannot come here" - even though I have a confirmation number etc.

So did they manage to authorise from the debit card? Or you had to give a Credit card number?
When I stayed there - it was fully booked. Or anyway that's what they told me to deny me an upgrade.
