How much compensation can I get?

I matched to BW Platinum and just finished my first stay. Frankly, it was awful.

- No upgrade, even a room adjacent to the elevator which was as big as the janitors room
- No welcome gift
- AC not working
- Fan not working
- Lights not working (complained but not fixed)

As I am not an expert with any Best Western compensation, any advice how much I can ask for in this case?

With three major issues, there is no way I would stay in the room. Pull the bedcovers off, dump the towels on the floor and head back tot he FD with your stuff.

BW's aren't the Four Seasons, but this is basic stuff.

compensation its harder at BW since they are all independently owned and compensation may vary. As a BW platinum or diamond there are very little hotels that offer a welcome gift, most opt in for the automatic bonus points which post a couple of days after your stay. Many BW tend to be smaller properties and don't have many rooms to upgrade to and given how easily BW matches other statuses its well over saturated with elites, so they were all given away or the property doesn't really give any unless they know you pretty well. As for the other issues, i would have asked to be moved or the issues fixed. I would not count on any major discounts, maybe a couple thousand points. Like Often1 said, BW arent four seasons and are not butt kissers like other higher end chains. Id only chose it for the affordable price or after doing extensive research regarding the property im staying.

As was mentioned all BW hotels are independently owned. Upgrades are very rare as most of these hotels/motels do not have premium rooms. I stay at 50+ BW a year and receive maybe 4 upgrades a year. I usually receive exactly what I book. Status with BW really just gives you the opportunity to earn extra BW points.

Arrival gift is 250 points or a snack/water and it is the hotel's choice which to give (you don't choose). Most hotels go with the points and, as was mentioned already, those show up when your stay posts to your account. Often times the hotel forgets to award the points but they can be chased down pretty easily.

I expect you mentioned all the issues with your room to the hotel staff at the time of your stay and it appears they took no action to provide you with basic comforts. I recommend you contact Best Western customer care as I am certain they will want to know about hotels that ignore maintenance issues. All guests, regardless of status, deserve a minimum level of comfort. Maybe you should ask the BW customer care team the question you posed to the community as they will let you know "how much compensation you can get"...

BW hotels vary greatly and it is important to do extensive research to ensure the hotel offers the level of comfort you are seeking. There are many great facilities in Canada and throughout Europe (particularly the Nordic countries). The U.S. is a truly mixed bag, as is Australia and New Zealand, and more research is required in these countries.

3-5 are unacceptable and you deserve compensation for that, frankly I think refunding your entire room rate is fair.

As for 1-2, that's something you need to change your expectations on. Despite a three-tiered elite program, BW is not very good about elite recognition. I never saw a room upgrade in several years as BW Diamond or Platinum and I always had to contact BW about the welcome amenity.
