Alert: You have to be logged in at avis.com to be able to specify an Frequent Traveler program. That field (which is now on the Rental Options page) disappears if you try to book without being logged in. (And, obviously, to be able earn an airline or hotel bonus, you have to be able to specify your airline or hotel program!)

Let's use the following format when editing the Wiki:

My husband has a avis car for 3 weeks. Can I participate in any of these promos after the rental has started?

I doubt it, especially if he doesn't want his rate to change drastically.

Avis does promos as "coupons", and because their system sees them as coupons, even though these particular coupons don't affect the rate, their system requires the reservation to be "repriced" (at current prices) when you add a coupon.

Also, read the T&Cs of each promo carefully. Some may explicitly require advance reservation (meaning the promo coupon has to be in advance reservation).

Finally, the promo you use has to match the frequent traveler program that you selected when you made the reservation. If he didn't select one for which you now want to add a promo, that's two competely separate things that now have to be changed about the reservation. (Avis asks for the promo coupon up front, but the frequent travel program info at the end, when making a reservation online, but they must match for the promo to work, of course.)

Woo hoo!

Avis - AA 3+ bonus miles promos have been extended until end of July (7/31/16).

In the Wiki - Avis: MUAA062, Budget: MUAZ056

Payless's 500 miles flat promo is currently on a 6/30/16 end date.

Added a new non-core rentals code for American/Avis to the wiki:
1,000 AAdvantage bonus miles offer valid on a minimum qualifying rental of 3 or more consecutive days on Luxury (car group H), Convertible (car group K), Premium SUV (car group L), Standard Elite SUV (car group S), Minivan (car group V) , and Full Size SUV (car group Z).
It uses an unusual method of an AWD not coupon code to get the bonus which limits its usefulness to may corporate or leisure renters. The AWD is a new one of K817114 affiliated with AA.

You should get at least the 500 base miles with the additional 1000, but I can't guarantee the elite/card holder bonus (but it should happen since it is triggered on the AA side not Avis side). The rules indicate about not being combinable with other codes (such as the overlap bonus miles coupon code), so you would take a risk if you tried both.

I booked a rental with Avis through Autoslash and just signed up for Avis Preferred. Can I select a frequent traveler program for this rental now or would that reprice my booking?

It would cause a re-price if you had booked it directly with Avis..

However, depending on the location, and how far your rental is, the price when you booked may not be the best one anyway. At many locations (ANC not being one of them !), if you keep checking the price (via Modify My Reservation), you'll find that price often goes up and down as the rental date approaches, and often I'm able to reprice a booking I made a month or two ahead at a better price once it's only a week or two out (to as little as a day or two out).

But how that works AutoSlash I don't know. I don't use AutoSlash (because I don't want to lock in a particular car class, since sometimes the lower price is on a slightly different car class than had the best price when I booked), I do this all manually.

When we transmit the reservation to Avis, we just include your Avis Preferred member number (if you included it). This should pick up whatever your default is for points earning in your Avis preferred profile. While it's technically possible to bring up the reservation on Avis.com and change it there, it very well may re-price, and then there may be synchronization issues with us, so the best approach is to email us at support<at>autoslash.com with your specific details so we can take care of it from our end.

We do search for the vehicle class you booked and above, and you can always make multiple reservations for different classes if you like and see what ends up being cheapest. Feel free to login and check yourself, but we offer a free service to do it for you. Just sayin'...

PS--You can also track your rental using the link below if you want to get alerts of lower prices.

Are you able to add partner promotions with the initial booking? I see where member number can be entered when making a booking but don't see a place to request the addition of a partner promotion.

And after a booking has been made any changes such as the addition of a partner promotion or change of points earning partner would cause the reservation to re-price right?

Thanks sdsearch. I am not familiar with car rental loyalty programs. I got a rate through autoslash I am really happy with ($288 after tax/fees for a 7 day Premium SUV in ABQ) so I really don't want it to re-price.

Partner promotions are typically used in lieu of $-off coupons. It's important to keep in mind that AutoSlash was built to get you the absolute lowest price possible on your rental. While there may be a code you can use to get bonus miles/points, it's almost certainly going to involve removing a coupon or discount code that yielded a lower rate, which is not really how AutoSlash works. You're welcome to apply any partner promotion codes you like, but they will cause the reservation to re-price, and most times it will be at a higher rate because you are removing a coupon and/or discount code that we've found that yields the best rate.

Maybe one day someone will come up with a car rental search engine that will find you the best partner deals available. Maybe that someone will even be AutoSlash one day. Alas, that day is not here yet though.

I just did a wiki cleanup. Added the AF/KLM (Flying Blue) promo from the post above, found some 6/30 promos had expired and some others had been extended, and found that the Starwood 750 offer and the Alaska 850 offer (both of which had expired a while back) have both been revived.

Hope I did this edit right, but I searched and the MUAA062 AA promo has been extended through 8/31/16 according to this:

https://www.avis.com/car-rental/html.../aaweekly.html

So if I didn't edit it correctly (moved the date between the slashes, seems to have worked OK), then hopefully someone else will fix.

AA 3 days+ 2500 bonus miles via AWD

https://www.aa.com/car?execution=e2s1

Yet another new AWD and BCD without coupon to get bonus miles valid to 10/15/2016 on AA.

AWD # K817112

https://www.aa.com/car/avisAdTsAndCs

Avis
2,500 AAdvantageŽ bonus miles offer valid on a minimum qualifying rental of 3 or more consecutive days on a subcompact (group A) and above, excluding specialty vehicles.
5,000 AAdvantageŽ bonus miles offer valid on a minimum qualifying rental of 3 or more consecutive days on Luxury (car group H), Convertible (car group K), Premium SUV (car group L), Standard Elite SUV (car group S), Minivan (car group V) , and Full Size SUV (car group Z).
Someone didn't cleanup the T&C as they still refer to using your own AWD, but that is not allowed.
