Those miles aren't too bad really for a five year old car. The highest I've had is 46,000 on a one year old Lincoln MKX but it was still in immaculate condition.

My last rental was a for a BMW 5 series.

They gave me a 2009 model I think and I basically told them to give me a new model. Got a new model (F10), but it still had 40k miles on it.

It is not uncommon to get cars with 80,000km+ in Germany.

Really? At Avis? I kinda remember there being something on the keyfob/chain implying the car would be put out of service after like 24K kms. (Disclaimer: I can't read German so I am just guessing)

Opel Astra sedan from 2009 with 111 000 km on it at ZAG airport.

REturned the following morning as the mileage was not the one on the contract (apparently, once it goes over 100 000 km it resets magically to 0 and showed only 11000 km) and faulty engine....

Not the oldest, but the most disappointing:
San Jose, Costa Rica at Crowne Plaza Hotel
Booked a 'Signature Line' Audi Q5. Despite being their "finest car in the fleet" and a 2012 model, they gave me the most damaged car ever! The hood had two big dents, both mirrors were scratched, as well the front grill and a loooong scratch on the right side. No bluetooth.
The economic class cars are at a way better condition.

Yikes... the oldest car I've had this year was 12K miles, ever was maybe 30K. Time to add this to the list of things to be thankful for on Turkey Day.
