Avis Preferred Select

I e-mailed Avis and asked why I wasn't preferred select when I have over 85 rental days in the last 3 months (Dec - Feb). Here is their response:

>Greetings,
>At this time he only has three rentals with in the last six months. He
>needs to have at least 12 rentals within a 12 month period in order to
>qualify. At the present time they do not have the program set for # of
>days. I believe they are looking into the # of days but have not
>programmed it yet.
>Let the customer know that we are in the process of revamping the
>program and we should know more within the next 30-45 days.
>
>Thanks,

How long have they had this "new" preferred select program? I thought they intiated it last summer but they still don't have a way to properly upgrade people to preferred select?!?!?!

Read the Avis First Club thread.

PS is going away, eventually.

How many rentals do you have? My understanding for PS is 18 rentals in 18 months. AFAIK, there is no qualification based on rental days. So like most of the hotel programs, Avis, Hertz, and probably most of the other car agencies favor people who have frequent short trips over those that have less frequent longer trips, even if the total spend or number of days is the same.

As a general rule of thumb, I know many people who turn in their car weekly and get a new one to build up rentals. There isnt much of a price break renting cars greater than 1 week in most AWD codes, and although its generally better for avis' cars to be out longer, and bieng cleaned less, most customers wouldnt feel too bad to just swap out cars once a week for a fresh, clean one. depends on your particular situaiton, but I knew guys who were renting for 3 days who brought back the car and picked one up right off the preferred counter by reservation for 3 straight days. They wanted to earn free rental day coupons and all summer long they did that everywhere they went and earned a stack of coupons.

to build up or maintain status would be no different, though there is a price break days 6 and 7 if you are staying at least a week.
