Ultimate Avis Car List (USA/Canada - List of Cars by Rental Class)

Ok, I guess I'm that bored. This is my attempt to list all the cars seen in Avis' fleet, with important notes regarding availability, locale, etc. When I have more time (or am more ambitious), I'll include links to ride reports and manufacturer webpages.

Please feel free to contribute!

This list will be sorted by rental class, then alphabetically.

Still a work in progress! Updated 6/29/2007

I would suggest moving Ford 500 out from Intermediate. Full size at least, although I don't have the exact car class... it "replaced" the Taurus, although it is larger than its predecessor.

Oops.. I was thinking Fusion, but typed 500. Thanks!

Where does a Mitsubishi Eclipse GT V6 fit in?

I always rent in intermediate class. When I jumped into the Eclipse at PHX I hit my head in the roof. It's tiny, so I went back and wonder if this was a huge downgrade. However, both attendants claims it to be a huge upgrade.

It's mega small, but mega cool. Has 263 HP engine and a 650-watt audio system.

Upgrade/downgrade. Anyone?

Definately upgrade from their point of view. Sportscar is a specialty(Probably group X). If you want to ride four people, however, or are 6'8" tall, it would be a downgrade for you. LOL :p

Is the Saturn Ion seriously a C? I usually rent B and get the cobalt, fusion, or ion. I thought it was all B. Was I really getting an upgrade by getting the Ion?

Does 1 class upgrade onnGroup E - Full Size mean premium -G- or SUV-F-

I know what one class means.
but to me a SUV is a diffrent animal from a car.
Personally, I think FULL=PREMIUM While a 2 class according to this list is more in keeping with the intent of the concept -1 class upgrade--

but what i think is unimportant.
WHAT IS AVIS POLICY???
THANK YOU!

about 4 months after the Ion hit the markets, they went from Compact to Mid size in an internal move. If you get an Ion and paid for a mid size, id complain and force them to get you a malibu, G6, or anything bigger.

Do it nicely, youll get an upgrade. Do it angrily, youll get a HHR

Its an upgrade from a standard car to a "cool car" in the same category. You got a 10-15 dollar a day upgrade at best. There are G6's that are tricked out just like the mitsu that people would be VERY happy to upgrade into.

There are some impala's that have bose stereo, XM, sunroof, series 3900 engine with performance tranny. Ive taken that particular car at speeds over 110 mph on some very currvy roads. Zoom zoom anyone?

How about the Saturn Aura XE. Is that really a Full-Sized car?

I would not consider it a full-size car, however I'm sure Avis does. It's 2" longer than the Sonata; same head room as the Impala; same leg room as the Grand Prix, and more than the Montego. Avis considers those other 4 full size, so I wouldn't see why the Aura would not be. I have a real problem, though, with the Sonata/Grand Prix/Taurus being in the full-size category but that's another thread.
