Preferred at Dulles

How is the preferred service at Dulles?

How much success at upgrades?

What is different with the preferred service

Prefered service is OK...ops seem a little sloppy there. So far, every time the bus driver has dropped the prefered customers off at the booth, and informed us all what slots are cars were in - so, just run to the car, start it up, and go while everyone else queues in the small booth to get their cars.

As Select, I've had mixed results - some upgrades, but often to cars with obvious damage, such as bashed fenders. The only big win I had was a requested upgrade from an SUV to a nice, new minivan with DVD...but then, the minivans aren't terribly popular, are they?

The oddest thing at IAD happened with my last rental - I didn't even look at the ticket that the RA gave me until I got on the plane - it said "See agent" - I realized that the "Miles In" was less than the "Miles Out" - perhaps Avis should have paid me for the rental!

Sorry to go off-topic but something similar happened to me a few weeks ago in Atlanta. The dispatching agent recorded the trip computer mileage of 54 instead of the odomometer reading. I put about 300 miles on the car but the returning agent recorded the correct odomoeter reading. So... it appeared that I put about 7800 miles on the car in 3 days. :D

If you divide that out, you drove an average of 108 miles per hour for 36 hours straight! You're lucky Avis didn't charge you with one of those new going over the speed limit fees! :p

so they will have a separate stop for the preferred members, should i go straight to the car, will the driver tell me which car is mine or will i have to go to a desk like i have to do in JAX?

You should be able to go straight to the car. Usually, the driver makes only one stop (for everyone), and just tells the prefereds which slot their car is in. Everyone else heads for the desk. As a prefered, your keys and rental agreement should be in the car. Overall, my experience at Dulles has been pretty good, and I can only remember going to the desk to the desk infrequently to request some sort of upgrade.

okay thanks alot

so the spots for the preferred are pretty close to where the bus drops you off?

i reserved a fullsize, usually i get a premium car as a courtesy upgrade...any chance of that happening

I think I've always been dropped off within about 50 feet of the car. You may
have luck with upgrades - as select, I've often been upgraded automatically from mid-size or full-size to a Buick or something similar. If the desk isn't too busy, and I've got an issue with the car I've been given, they've generally been pretty good about helping me find something better.
