hmm.. but to which Avis should I give them a call? The one which I used my country of residence or to the one that I am actually living in? Would it not cause any suspicion if I called the one where I am really living in?

I did email the, though still waiting for a reply on this. I did not email the office that issued the bill, but to the office where I made the rental.

:)

The best thing to do is call the Avis office that sent the bill.

If they won't sort it out then call the credit card company and tell them the rental was for X amount and they charged you Y amount and they won't refund the difference. The credit card company will treat it as a "disputed transaction" and refund the money.

Let us know how you get on!

You must call them and tell them to refund the difference between the originally quoted rate and what you were charged - this seems a trend with Avis nowadyas to claim the system accidentally changed the rate when you picked the car up. Just think how much extra they are making worldwide when people do not challenge the higher rate. I think the rely on it being a business expense and no-one checking!

I have had this twice in Brussels recently and had to call them each time. I have to admit though, each time it was not argued and refunded to my cc the same day.

What I'll do is wait for another couple of days and see if I get a reply from Avis. If not, I will contact the office that issued the bill.

I do agree with you about the Avis here in Belgium. I have had this experience a couple of times already with Avis Belgium/Netherlands (btw, they are one HQ in Hoofdorp). It is really irritating that after every rental you have to chase after them about it.. I find it not customer friendly that you have to always be on their tail about this rental conflict of prices. I thought it was due to me giving them my FFP number during the rental, but have tried not requesting any change to the original reservation, but it still happens. I do wonder what is going on in their system or Account department.

Will keep the forum updated on this.

:)

I had them overcharge me once and when I phoned they offered a refund immediately - too quickly in my opinion. I asked them if this type of "mistake" happened very often but all they would say was "we made a mistake and have refunded your card".
