Thoughts on using Avis rental car in DEN?
The best deal I could get is with Avis at Denver airport. The price was like $200 less. Never have used Avis. Your thoughts if you've used them. Thanks in advance.

Do you qualify for any special rates (like AARP, Costco, etc.) which might qualify you for an even lower rate? Also, note that Avis coupon MUWA010 -- unless blacked out for your rental period -- will knock $15 off of a rental rate of $175 or more. Avis' sister company, Budget, sometimes offers lower rates than Avis for the same rental. |
Thank you for your reply. I understand about location. I've tried all company's and wound up getting the best rate through Autoslash/Priceline. I do qualify for Costco and AAA/AARP. I do not want to pay upfront in case plans change and that is where I'm getting the best deal. But with this rate I got for Avis is was pay at counter. It's ridiculous the difference in Pay Now or Pay at Counter. I'm sure a lot of people have lost money by doing that.
I appreciate you offering the code. :tu: I will take a look. Have a blessed day. |
Note that at participating Avis/Budget locations in the U.S., the AARP rates includes a small amount of primary third-party liability insurance, and also limits your liability for rental-car loss or damage to just $5,000 (assuming that you do not pay for Avis' expensive LDW coverage). Your personal auto-insurance policy and the credit card you use for the rental may also provide some coverage
Details of the special Avis/AARP coverage here: https://www.avis.com/en/association/A359807 (Scroll down to "Additional Benefits.") Be sure to have your current AARP membership card with you; some Avis/Budget locations ask for it when a renter has booked the AARP rate. |
Good to know. Thanks so much.

I won't comment on upgrades as I'm CHM and I'm sure your experience there will be different. But the Avis busses at DEN seem to always be quick to pickup - I've never waited more than a few minutes. And their lot seems to have plenty of cars every time I've been there (some week days, some weekends in the past ~year, including last week), so there doesn't seem to be a risk of no cars when you show up for you reservation. For a seldom-renter, I don't think there's any reason to avoid Avis in DEN.

I've rented twice at DEN in the last several months. The shuttle usually comes pretty quickly if it is not already waiting at the terminal. All of the rental places are a bit of a ways away.
Both times I was there they had plenty of cars - dozens if not hundreds. I am PC and usually book intermediate sedan. The first time I got a Grand Cherokee 4xe or Wrangler 4xe and went inside to see if I could get a Durango, and walked out with an Escalade. Last time I was assigned a Camry, and at the desk (went in to see what else I could get) was offered that or a Malibu or Sonata, so just took the Camry. Boring car and definitely not my favorite, but low mileage and was really good on gas. When returning, the shuttle pickup is right next to returns. It could not be easier. I have no complaints about Avis DEN. -J. |
Check Yelp for airport rentals. And also Google Maps review. Both will have user submitted photos of tahe branch.

DEN Avis is a large station and typically has a great selection of cars.
Check vehicle condition before leaving and get damage documented (try to get a damage slip in writing). Bring any issues you see to the attention of the staff. If they say the vehicle is "pre inspected" - ask to confirm the damage you are seeing is actually documented. You can also photograph the damage with a date stamp/time stamp/showing rental car lot in the background at pick up if you have trouble getting the damage documented and potentially use that in the event of an issue at return. |
