Booked: full-size sedan
Offered: Nissan Altima
Received: 2022 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara

App offered me an Altima and did not show any available swaps/upgrades. Went to counter and asked for a Wrangler - received a newer one with <10k miles. Happy with the car but got a speeding ticket =(

Welcome to FlyerTalk infrequent__flyer !

An upgrade with a ticket isn't fun.

Booked: InterMediate
Offered: Nissan Kicks
Received: Jeep Grand Cherokee

Louisville still does not have their Preferred kiosk running yet. "Next week". Sure, Jan...

So, off to the counter... where for once there’s not 74 angries in line.

Me: Whaddya got?
Meat: Neeesahn Kicks
Me: What's that?
Meat: I dunno... hey Beef, whatsa Neeesahn Kicks?
Beef: FuggifIno.
Meat, to me: Fuggifino.
Me: Yeah I got that part.

Took the FuggifIno after some saltiness with a different and imperious agent who insisted there's no better option to the Neeesahn Kicks unless I pay.

Even for PC? Ohh... Grrr, fine, you win. This ain’t over.

Trudge to garage. Turns out a Nissan Kicks is one of those tiny pointless cute-utes. Ugh, OK. Wait. Manitoba plates? Whatever, I know metric. (gets in) Dang this thing is tiny insi....HAAAAAKKKKHKHHK (jumps out from filthy-ashtray stench inside).

Trudge back to counter. Oh, shift change? Entirely new crew 15 minutes later.

Me: Car stinky. Nope.
Ham: OK, lemme see.

*stare stare stare stare*
H: Is this OK?
M: ugh
H: this?
M: no
H: this?
M: (howls)
H: THIS?
M: Y E S.
H: (thank the babby jeezus) Here. You go now.

2020 (?) Jeep Grand Cherokee, pretty loaded, high mileage but nicely kept unlike a lot of recent Avises. Slight old tinge of cigarettes but very slight. I usually hate SUVs but this tank has grown on me. What? No not like that.

(This mostly happened. Some embellishment may have occurred. Maybe.)

Booked: Full-size sedan
Offered: 2022 Dodge Charger
Received: 2022 Dodge Charger (5k miles)

Trim: GT, AWD with nearly every configurable option: Nappa/Alcantara performance seats with 10-way power driver seat (w/ seat memory), Alpine speakers with sub, power sunroof, plus group, technology group packages. Excellent rental car in almost every way.

One interesting thing about this car is you have the ability to lock/unlock the car, view its location, and flash the headlights via the Avis app. Fuel level is also linked so on return it's calculated automatically.

Booked: Chevrolet Traverse or similar
Received: Chevy Suburban w/ 6 miles on it

To say that this thing was big is an understatement. I would have actually asked for something smaller, but there was a line and I didn't feel like waiting. 6 miles on the odometer and the car hadn't even been taken out of Demo Mode.

Booked: Full-size sedan
Offered: 2021 Lexus UX 200
Received: 2022 Ford Explorer
If I were traveling by myself I would have taken the Lexus, but it was small for me and my 2 friends + luggage so I went on the app & switched to the Explorer

Booked: Full size
Offered: Mazda CX-5
Accepted: Mazda CX-5

Got in around midnight and the app would only offer Chrysler vehicles - 3 different Pacificas and 1 300.

Decided I didn't want any of the Pacificas and didn't want to listen to fake engine noises, so no interest in waiting in line and took the Mazda - which had ~3900 miles so far

Usually a National renter here. Do upgrades work well for non-airport locations under Avis? Thanks!

Don't expect much/anything for an upgrade at RIC... even with an upgrade coupon attached to the res, I almost always get the same class car, even as presidents club. And the app never provides other choices - always says nothing else is available.
Last rental I had intermediate reserved, and was given intermediate. Low mileage, but filthy/dusty exterior and windshield had a crack on the far right side.

When do you get notified in the app you got an upgrade?
