Changing Return Location After Rental
What is Avis's charge if you return a car to the wrong location in the US?

It literally could be anything from $0 to tens of thousands of dollars. Best not to find out. There are numerous horror stories of folks being charged crazy amounts for returning to an unauthorized location.

The reason why there are no standardized tables is because it's not a cost of recovery, but directing cars between corporate stores depending on local, regional, and seasonal shifts in demand.

You can ask while logged in to your account on their app or their Website. Click on your present rental, then on "Modify Rental." Enter the new dropoff location, and it will answer. If you like the new price, click to confirm the change!

Charging by mile is usually associated with flat daily rate corporate contracts. It therefore might be assumed that will happen if that's what you rented under.

It should be noted that this feature does not make it clear if you will get charged by mile due to change in return location. It only gives an estimate which can be totally off as the estimate does not take account the actual geographic distance between pickup and return locations. So let's say if you picked up NYC and decide to do a return in SFO, the estimate shown could be very off from actual charge.
