Is Avis Actually Checking Corporate IDs?

I actually have not rented a car since the pandemic began over 2 years ago. I have an upcoming reservation made with a corporate discount code for which I no longer have a valid ID. Are they actually checking for corporate IDs ... Avis Preferred at San Diego is where I am renting?

Edited to apologize...just saw an entire thread dealing with the subject!🙃

I recently rented at SD and I went straight to my car and left, no verification

I've never had them check at airport locations. At neighborhood locations / hotels, they are more likely to check.

There is a long thread on this already.

At one point multiple Avis locations at least in CA/NV posted what looked like location-made (paper in a plastic holder or laminated sheet taped to the plastic barriers between clerk and customer) signs on the counters that if you were renting with a Corporate ID, to have that Corporate ID ready.

If you don't have access to the corporate ID anymore, use at your own risk.

At a location where Avis Preferred skips the counter and goes straight to the vehicle I do think it is a lot less likely they'll check this. But they have every right to check...

Insurance companies are in the business of making money by denying /minimizing claims, and not in the business of compensating customers for their losses.

If you use a discount code for which you do not qualify and have an accident with a serious damage cost, you provide your insurance company (doesn't matter, the rental company, or your credit card) an easy excuse to deny your claim.

If you don't have an accident, most likely no one will care about the code you use

This is also be a good point. I could 100% see this. Especially if using a corporate code that included damage coverage with the rental agency.

With that said I had damage (no accident, just damage- rock thrown at window) on a vehicle last year rented for personal use with an employer's rate code (stipulated in the policy of my employer that code could be used for business or personal rentals) and I have one of those personal credit cards that provides damage coverage primary... nobody ever commented on the corporate code I used. Eventually the card benefit administrator cut a check for the damage.

This has been frequently repeated but never proven. I'm not saying people should use codes they aren't authorized to use, but I don't think insurance can/will deny you over it.
