Returning car a day (or two) early
 

I only need car for 5 nights but the weekly rate is $200 cheaper. This is an airport rental. If I return the car a day or two early, will my rate stay at the weekly one or revert to the highly inflated daily rate?

Any rental 5 days or greater is considered a weekly rental insofar as the rate plan is concerned. Are you saying that a 7-day rental is cheaper than a 5-day rental? If so, if you keep the car for 5 days, your rate plan should still be valid. You might even save a bit on taxes and fees by returning a couple of days early.

However, many rates also have a min/max or other triggers (Sat overnight keep, etc). If you book through Avis.com, on the 4th/final page (titled "4 YOUR INFORMATION), hit the "See Rate Terms" button and you should have something expanded like below. From there, you can see if your new times will meet the requirements. If not, the rental will be repriced at return into something nobody will be able to advise in advance).

..and to add insult they charge you a fee to change the return date. I tried to keep a car longer for 1 day and had to pay the fee on top of the daily rate on a corporate rental. In the old days I would show up later and they just charged an extra day.

DI'd you use the app to modify the return? If I call or just show up, I get charged the extension fee. When using the app, I've never been charged.

I have a 4 week rental with Budget in Jan/Feb on Maui.. Dates are 1/8>2/5. Will probably have to fly home a day or two early. From what I've read this shouldn't cost me a penalty or a rerate, correct?. Rez is through PL. Our rate is $1241 and no one else is close to that price.
