Point Expiration

AwardWallet tells me that I have 100 Avis Preferred Points which will soon expire. I have no need to rent a car in the next few days so I don't see any opportunity to redeem the points or earn new ones. Is there any other way to extend the expiration? Any recommended uses apart from redeeming for rentals? I am not a frequent Avis customer but I hate to see points just vanish into thin air.

700 points are worth maybe $7...I wouldn't worry about it.

Did you mean "100 points are worth ~$7"? That'd be more in-line with current valuations.

To the OP: you need 700 to turn in for a low-cost rental, so as mentioned, I wouldn't worry about 100 Avis points.

Looks like I probably won't be able to do anything, but just in case... is there any other way to extend the life of the 100 points other than by redeeming them for a rental or by renting a vehicle?

Sorry - yes, that's what I meant.

Recommend you take a look at using the one-way airport special. Should be about $15 bucks more or less. 100 miles for a 12 hour one way from "Downtown" to the airport or vice versa. Not all cities participate.

It will cost him more to do this than the value of the points he's trying to save.

I agree but if OP has more points expiring later in the year, this will be the cheapest option to extend everything.

I read the terms that says that Avis points are good only 60 months after they are earned. Is this correct? If so, then a new rental won't extend points already earned, which is the case with most airlines.

What is the expiration of Avis points?
Are the Avis banners correct in that there's a minimum of 100 points per rental, meaning 7 (or fewer) rentals will get you a free day?

EDIT: See https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/avis...-restored.html

Seems to be you have to rent at least once a year and use up your points within 60 months of earning. Another way to calculate is that you have to rent 7 times within 5 years to earn a free rental day assuming that you get 100 points per rental.
