Weekender Club

When you rent for a month or longer, this promotion does not seem to apply which I find unjust, unless your rental starts from Thursday noon to Saturday.

It seems unjust to me as when you rent for a long period, it obviously includes many weekends, but AVIS says NO CREDITS towards the Weekender Club.

Thanks a lot AVIS. Some loyalty!

Avis charges different rates to different types of renters. They make no secret that weekday rates are generally higher and weekend rates are generally lower, commensurate with demand.

AFAIK, the Weekender Club is aimed at people who don't own cars and is meant to stimulate business from leisure renters who would like a car on weekends only in their home city. These renters get 4 rentals for the price of 3 and reliable transportation on weekends, Avis generates revenue from assets that would otherwise be sitting in a lot depreciating. I think it's a brilliant scheme as I fell into their target market when I was living in YYZ and liked the ability to pick up a like-new car for the weekend, get away from the city and not have to worry about parking from Monday to Friday.

If your rental encompasses both the slow weekend periods and the more lucrative work-week periods when Avis can normally charge a higher daily rate, then you really aren't generating that high marginal revenue that Avis is targeting with the Weekender Club. Avis charges special weekly and monthly rates to people in your situation that strike a balance between offering you an attractive cost per day, while charging enough to make it worthwhile to forgo the potentially higher short-term rates they could hypothetically charge from business renters.

Of course, that's just my opinion. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Well formulated response. That's exactly the way it works.

I have benefitted from the Avis Weekender Program for over 200 weekends. This program has really helped me save money and has driven my business to Avis to the detriment of the competition.

I have never seen the need to purchase a car and this program has played a large role in that choice.

How do you join the Weekender Club? I have seen it advertised on the Canadian Avis web site, but cannot see any mention of it on the US web site.

You don't need to register. Avis keeps track of your rentals and your hometown using your wizard number and your first qualifying rental will mark the beginning of a six-month window within which two more qualifying rentals must occur to earn a free weekend certificate. If you don't rent a sufficient amount within the window, your qualifying rentals expire for the purposes of the program.

Most people don't even know about the scheme until they make a qualifying rental and the Avis superdupercomputer generates a welcome mailing, including a nifty Weekender Club membership card that is suitabe for framing.
