Infamous Avis code A113400 Fl State Employees
 

Anyone have recent experience trying to use this code without being a Florida State employee? I am stuck in a bad spot. Found this site as I've been looking for codes online.

Orlando over Xmas week. 12/26-1/3. Need a mini-van or full -sized SUV to fit 2 car seats, a wheelchair, luggage, a large double stoller (wide one), the kitchen sink, etc. I've plugged in over 175 codes from 4 different rental agencies. I bid daily on priceline (and now it says "Name Your Own Price is not available for the itinerary you requested. The best available rates are shown below." I can't seem to get the rates down to a reasonable level. Most are in the $1200-1400 range for 8 days... um, not in the budget. I found the magic code of A113400 for Fl state employees for about $320 out the door from Avis. Researching online it looks 50/50 if I'll get called to the carpet on it or not with my PA driver's lic. Anyone get through lately with it? I plan to sign up for Avis Preferred in hopes that I'll be allowed to skip the counter (where I assume the scrutiny would occur) and head to the mini-van without getting in trouble. I have a back-up rental at the same comapny (Avis) for a mini-van using the Citicorp Lesiure travel code A074800 for $478 out the door. I also have a Budget Ford Escape or similar res'd for $375 out the door as a 3rd option, although I'm feeling like I'll have to strap the wheelchair or double stroller or one of the kids to the roof to make everything fit into an Escape. I'm hoping that either somebody here can tell me the magic way to get the infamous Fl Employee code to work the day after Xmas in Orlando, or can find me another magic code that will work that I won't have to worry about so much .... or some other gem of advice! HELP!

Edit to add: I think using a code for which one is not eligible is a bad idea.

Just make up some business card that says department of Florida on it, explain to them that you just moved down from PA for the job it should work :)

Well, I can't comment on use of that code... I can tell you that there is no "skipping the counter" at Orlando. Orlando has separate AVIS Preferred Booths, so you get to skip the main counter in the terminal, but when you walk to the garage, you still need to check in at the Preferred Booth and get your keys, contract, etc.

Where are you staying? Would it be cheaper to take Disney transport and forget the rental car? You have car seats, so I'm wondering if you really want to lie to a car rental company in front of your (?) kids. :confused:

My mother used to tell everyone i was under 12 to get the "children rate" at movies, theme parks, etc until I was about 16. I still blame her to this day, and its a frequent topic of conversation at the Thanksgiving table. In her words, "they can't prove that you're not under 12" :rolleyes:

I have used the code for quite some time. Most airport locations have gotten hip to it and will ask you for ID. I have NEVER been asked for ID to use that AWD code at an Avis location that is not located at an airport. And recently, on several occasions, I have been successful at using the code at airport locations by accompanying my drivers license and credit card with a neatly folded $20 bill. I place the twenty between my license and CC and hand it to them (before they have a chance to ask for the ID) and say "I know I am supposed to have a Florida ID, but I don't have it with me. I am hoping you can overlook that this one time." Not only has it worked every time so far, but every time I have been upgraded to a FAR SUPERIOR car than the one I booked. I can tell you that for longer rentals (more days) the $20 is well worth it. Even for a two day rental, some of the other codes on here are $118 for an economy car, where the FL code is $49. Worth a crisp twenty? It is to me!

Most of us know that AVIS frequents this forum and lurks. I'm not sure I'd admit any kind of fraudulent use of coupons, bribery, or anything on a public internet forum which at some point can be tracked back to me...whether by AVIS security, or your local authority...

I don't know FL law, so can't comment, but I can tell you that impersonating a Federal official (doesn't have to be a law enforcement officer, any Federal employee will do) is a felony. Do people get tracked down and prosecuted? Not to my knowledge. But presuming that it's a violation of Florida law, what kind of a person puts their well-being and career on the line for a car rental?
