I can just get one point for a rental not less than two days??

Sorry I am asking such a stupid question.....but I am just new to avis... and have two rentals but do not know how to get the credit....

I'm completely confused by what you're asking. Are you asking about the rewards program? If so, that's Avis First; you need 12 rentals in a calendar year just to join, then you get one free weekend for every four rentals that are at least two days and don't earn frequent flyer miles.

Some rental car companies have their own points programs, and some people use those instead of airline miles or hotel points. I don't remember Avis having such a thing, but maybe that's what the OP is asking about (if coming from another rental company which had their own points program)?

Yes, that is what i was asking... I was confused....I do know hertz and national have reward program and then you can accrue the points till a free rental..

so avis wizard program is not this kind of rewards program??

Well, if you're not interested in collecting miles or points with a partner of Avis (toward flights or hotel stays), and you want to earn something with the rental company itself for one-day rentals, then I guess Avis is not your kind of program.

To me, rental awards (at least as they're structured at Avis) are not a priority. I mean, I would love to be able to have had my entire recent 12-day $1000+ Avis rental in Norway (1/3 of which was "super CDW", because I couldn't decline the CDW completely, and thus my charge card wouldn't have covered it), paid for with points. But free weekends don't help with week-plus rentals a single bit (because the rate for the weekdays alone is not going to be any better than for the whole week!!!).

And most of my weekend-only rentals end up being reasonably cheap, so little incentive to give up airline miles or hotel points to slowly earn a "free" weekend rental (on which I may still have to pay taxes and fees and such?!?).

So I myself see little point for me in the Avis First program (which I am in, but never earn any free rentals in because I always earn miles on my rentals, usually thousands of miles due to promos). And so I can't explain to you what the benefits would be, because I don't see any (for a collector of airline miles and/or hotel points). :)

Even with an airline program that gives more miles than average for a 2-day rental (BA gives 500, and Southwest gives 0.5 credits), if you only do that oocasionally and don't earn the same miles with anyone else, then you're not likely to ever get to an award level. So what's the point?

So I can't give you a good suggestion until you explain which arilne program(s) and/or hotel program(s) you already collect with (presumably in ways other than rentals). I presume you a renting because you're flying (or taking the train) to somewhere, and once you get there, if you're renting for 2 days, you most likely need a hotel stay, so I presume you collect with someone, but I have no idea who.

I collection points mostly for programs of United..Delta...AA..SPG..Hyatt..PCR, and some others like British and Southwest, Hilton Honors..

I suggest for short rentals like 1 or 2 days, you choose between British Airways (with which you'll earn a flat 500 miles, with a bit of a bonus if you rent crediting to BA something like 4 times a year, but may not work if you use some corporate AWDs; BA suggests their own AWDs like N744100 for BA Blue, though I don't know if they're really necessary) or Southwest (which earns a flat 0.5, unless there's a bonus going on in which case it may earn more though usually on 3 day or longer rentals, not 1 or 2 days). Other airlines will only earn you 50 miles a day, thus 100 miles for a 2-day rental.

You can choose a different partner (or not partner) for each rental, btw. I have British as my default (using it only for short rentals, it's a simple way to keep my BA miles alive), but regularly change it to AA or UA or DL on longer rentals, typically based on who's got the best promo (there's a whole thread here in the Avis forum dedicated to listing the various Avis bonus miles promos). The partner doesn't go in your profile. However, a default AWD does (and thus note any possible interaction of that with choosing BA as a partner). In my case N744100 is my default AWD, and I have changed it when using other airlines, but leave it be when using BA.

You can evaluate hotels yourself. Each has different earning rates, and some like Hyatt are per rental while others are per day. It's possible that one of them may make more sense for 1-day rentals, while another may make more sense for 2-day rentals.

Note that a couple airline and hotel partners seem to be misfiled under the Other Partnerships dropdown (rather than being in Airlines or Hotels).

One other thing of note that bothers some people and not others: For domestic airlines, Avis (as well as other rental companies) charge 50c for up to the first 4 days, while AFAIK that doesn't happen with foreign airlines (like BA) or hotels. I don't mind paying $2 when I'm earning thousands of miles on a bonus promotion for a 4-day rental, but I wouldn't like it as much if I was only earning 50 or 100 miles...

I know all that, I allududed to that (without quite as much specifics), but the thing is, if you read his previous posts, the OP is only interested in earning miles on rentals of 1 to 2 days (the ones too short to earn free rentals with Avis First). The OP is more interested in free rentals, and only upon finding out they can't earn free rentals on paid rentals of 1 to 2 days asked about what kind of miles are best to earn on those.

Most if not all of the promos you mention, and that are in that thread, are for 3+ day rentals.

Not true. If you look at post #1 of that thread the promotions are categorized by
1) Car rental agency
2) Airline/Point program
3) Minimum rental qualification.

There are many many promotions listed for 1-day and 2-day rentals.

FTR, with Delta's SkyMiles Marketplace, if one holds a Delta-branded Amex one can redeem SkyMiles for free car rentals (hotel stays too)
