Help extending TACA miles

TACA doesn't seem to have any mall buying program or some fairly easy way to keep my miles from expiring. Even the hotels seemed to be ones in other countries than US.

Does anyone know of an inexpensive/fairly easy way to extend the life on my miles.

Thank you

thanks for the reminder. I guess a cheap Hampton Inn stay can cover that. also is 3yrs or 2 yrs when they expire? I remember something about 24 months but dont remember where I saw it.

Found a Rules and Regulations, #7 says that the miles expire on Dec31 of the third year from the posting. So if the miles posted on Feb 1 01, they will expire on Dec 31 04. The only way to keep 'em is by flying on a GT flight. Nothing about any partner (car rental, hotels, partner airline flight) being any good as it is on the US carriers programs. I dont know if you have to have completed your flights by then or just have booked a tkt by then, Id assume book a tkt by then, my Spanish is as good as my Chinese so calling them wont be of too much help.
It seems from the above R&R that a car rental or hotel stay or any credit other than a Groupa Taca flight will Not extend the expiraton year. Best to try and speak to them in case their terms have changed.

I was rather confused on the expiration date as well. I didn't think there were any hotels not located outside of the USA that you could get mileage points. The Hampton you can?? And we're sure it extends the life of the miles. I've found this to be a difficult to understand program and my Spanish is the same as yours.

I do remember at one time seeing Distancia as one of the choices at Hilton for the miles credit.

But I edited my post above once I found the R&Rs. It seems that the Only way to extend ones miles is by actually flying on a Paid tkt on a Groupa Taca flight,(Lacsa,Taca,Avitaca, I believe are the 3 carriers that make it up,)

Its Offical

just got off with Distancia. they said as I posted above that the ONLY way to keep your miles is by flying on a paid flight! no hotel, car rentals, etc.. will do one any good in order to keep the miles from expiring. That gives me to 12/05. I dont kniow if a code-shared flight will be good I cant see why, but I would rely on assuming anything.

My understanding is that TACA miles expire after 3 years and are not renewed by additional flight activity. I checked it out once and this is clearly what I read and what I was told. However; as you say their details are difficult to understand and I could have been told wrong.

An alternative is that you can combine miles with other people for an award.

So if you have 10k miles Joe has 20 K miles and I have 5K miles we can combine them so that I get a 35k award. (OK maybee you won't give me your miles, but they do have a sharing process that has no cost.)

They are very strict. They expired all my miles last year and after many letters and threats of legal action I got them extended because I was misinformed and had a detailed record of all the agents I had spoken to. You have to fly a TACA flight at least once a year to extend the miles past three years. All of the approvals go through the San Salvador office and they are very difficult to understand.

I'm ready to lose my miles at the end of this year. I've been trying to get a few award tickets to deplete my account for 4 days now. Today I was told that I'd have to pay a rush fee of $25 per ticket as it would take longer to get my tickets approved and ticketed before 12/31.

TACA is a good airline to fly but their procedures are cumbersome. I have sat in their office for hours just waiting for a single itinerary to get ticketed. An agent told me that they have to complete an entire booking before they are told if the seats are available.
