Lifemiles serious booking problems - Beware (from January 2022 onwards)

Please do your homework before buying Lifemiles. It is what it is... for some that's useful, for others it's not.

Biggest complaints are about
- mixed class bookings are available but now many of the suitable connections dont show
- not being able to book anything that isn't available online (there are work-arounds, see screenshot method below)
- the quality of the call center (English speaking agents are scarce, you might get thrown in a loop with call transfers within their call center)
- no stopovers (>24H) or open jaws, but you can book one way awards
- no reservations on Certain subsidiaries of Star Alliance carriers (Lufthansa Cityline, Germanwings)
- no availability showing at all on the website (try logging out and logging back in)

Problems with ticketing / lack of confirmation screen or email
- write down the confirmation number shown on the screen after confirming your purchase.
check here: http://serviciosenlinea.avianca.com/...doReserva.aspx

Sometimes, even if you cannot see the PNR, the record may have been created, so better to call them and give them flight details you were trying to book. They can find the PNR from those details.
- ticketing usually takes place within 10-15 min of booking
- but it may also take up to 2 days
- if miles have been deducted from your account and a temporary authorization has been placed on your CC, you're probably fine even if you did not see a confirmation screen
- if no e-ticket number is visible on checkmytrip.com after two days, you should contact LifeMiles. You can expedite the ticketing by emailing with your booking reference to: [email protected] after you have booked, especially if you have booked last minute flights, and need ticketing straight away

Screenshot method.
So, on a date you are looking for in the future, there is availability for LAX-NRT and NRT-BKK. But not LAX-NRT-BKK.
It may be a case of the LM system not offering the through connection.

Take three screen shots - two 'available' screen shots for LAX-NRT and NRT-BKK and the 'not available' screen for LAX-BKK.
Send them all off with a scan of your passport page (PDF) and LM will make the booking manually for you.

You need to have 40% of the miles in your account for them to make the booking. On some occasions, credit card points do not transfer over immediately. In such cases also send screenshots of the points being debited from your credit card. In some cases the LM account will immediately show the points transferred in the account activity section. Send a screenshot of that as well.

After a day or two, you will get a reply via email saying the matter has been escalated to an internal area. The next day someone will call you from 305 447 2819 and will process the payment over the phone. You will need to set a PIN which you can do in your online LM account (under the account access section of your online profile).

Send to these two email addresses, and CC yourself (just for your records)
[email protected] (invalid as of July 2022)

1. Make sure you are using Google Chrome.
2. Visit https://www.lifemiles.com/fly/find; make sure you log out and log back in to ensure your session didn't expire.
3. Right click anywhere on the page and click "Inspect". Go into the "Console" tab and paste the following, then make sure you hit enter.

Any new searches should now forcibly show the first class availability, if it exists. It won't create availability out of thin air. If you refresh the page, it will stop working. This works because there is a global "firstClass" flag returned by the LifeMiles server, and the UI does not render the F availability even if it exists, if this global flag is disabled. This forces every LM response to enable this flag.

Some of the booking problem where partner airline award space availability for a non-stop flight exists for AV miles but doesn’t show up in the regular searches on lifemiles.com may be because of something related to the time settings used by Lifemiles website/app. If able to select by airline and adjust the specific time somehow, the space may show up on lifemiles.com.

anothet 126k miles spend, this brings me to total of 400k for 2022. All my bookings are 5-1 days in advance.

My strategy is to book regular paid tickets and when avalabilty shows up cancel them and book with lifemiles

I'm wondering what is really going on - a one-way redemption BOM-DXB in biz using LM is showing as 55k!

(Edited to Add: Maybe it's because I selected R/T on LM...NOPE! Still showing 55k on a one-way as well!)

For comparison:

Aeroplan: 25k
TK: 32k
UA: 38.5k or 40.3k

(Previous (non-DXB) searches were coming up blank - as they were for other FTers)

Has LM changed their reward chart - or is this a glitch??

With some exceptions LM is zone-based, and the award in question is Middle East to Central Asia… which by the looks of some of the historical award charts available on line has been 55k for some time.

Other programs will be more generous if looking at distance, or have some component of distance within their zone-based charts.

It can work both ways… a reward South East Asia to Australia comes in at 40k one way in biz class… which is lower in cost than Aeroplan, or Singapore Airlines.

Are u able to force first class availability? I did the steps mentioned, but all I could find is still Economy and Biz class during searching.

I've been following/lurking on this thread for quite sometime. I must say, as someone with a lot of transferable currency from various credit cards and who was intrigued with the possibilities of using LMs, reading this thread is... humbling...

Did you first confirm the F availability through other programs? You can't force something out of nothing, but the claim was that if something was there but was simply hidden, you could unhide it and possibly book it.

Hi, I tried this and it's not working. Found LH F space showing up on AC and UA, but when searching on LM it doesn't show. So I tried this solution and it still doesn't show. I am using a chromebook and not windows, could that be the reason that this workaround isn't working for me?

Humbling for consumers.

Avianca, on the other side, has a profound arrogance in selling miles likes crazy while having crippled the ability to use the miles for premium cabin space.

I think there might be a syntax error in the javascript. I just tried it too and it does not work.

dlflyer00, could you confirm the code snippet you posted is error free and still works for you? We tried it without success. Thanks!

Yeah, it's definitely not the easiest program and certainly not for mile/points newbies. It seems like the best use case for them is when booking something pretty close to departure (but not too close given the datapoints of long ticketing times!) that you're definitely going to fly and that is a very simple itinerary. Beyond that, I'd use United or Aeroplan instead.

The bloggers who constantly post about LM sales/bonuses are doing their readers a complete disservice by failing to mention the numerous pitfalls and difficulties of the LM program.

I’ve had very quick ticketing times with LifeMiles, but it’s their restricted availability of premium cabin mileage space that is my main issue with them.

The most annoying ticketing times I’ve had on mileage tickets are with AA mileage ticket bookings. AV/Lifemiles has been very fast for ticketing my stuff.

yeah with AA if its close to departure I always have them call ticketing and processing the ticket its annoying but at least I know it'll get done.

Is anyone having site issues with lifemiles or is it blocked in lithuania for some odd reason ?

Indeed. That was of course what I was referring to.

Personally, I've been lurking on this thread long enough to have made the decision that I'd likely never actually purchase LMs, but as mentioned I have lots of transferable currency and was hoping I could make it work.
