Flight delay compensation

hey guys

a few weeks ago we bought 2 tickets for the flights CLO-BOG-MEX.
After waiting on a very chaotic CLO airport for 6 hours and seeing flights taking off towards BOG, staff told us, we would not be able to fly to BOG and thus also miss our next flight to MEX. We were told to go to the avinaca office for further arrangements.
Of course we were not the only ones in that office. After waiting there for another 2 hours, we decided to not wait any longer and take ourself a cab, so we took off and overnihgted in a Cali hotel. Later at the hotel we were able to comunicate to Avincace. We were now booked on a Capa flight the next day.

I would like to know if you guys see any way to get some kind of compensation of avinanca. besides the fact that tickets for flights the day we actualy traveled were way cheaper than tickets on the day we had originaly booked, I had quite a lot expenses for rearanging meetings in Mexico, we had expenses for aditional transport in Cali, hotel, food...

thx for ya help...

The chances of recovering anything from Avianca are slim. You will do better submitting your hotel, food, and local taxi costs to your travel insurance carrier along with the specifics of the delay (which will likely include your PNR and ticket numbers).

Recovering for consequential losses such as rescheduled meetings are generally not covered by anybody.

You can always try submitting all of this to Avianca, but do not expect anything.

Why was your flight cancelled?

I already did write a compensation letter to Avianca. It eventually took them a few weeks to answer, that they wouldnt be able.
THere was no explanation why the flight was cancelled.
By the time they answered, the timeframe for any compensation from my tavel insurance was already over...

We were hoping there would be a law or some kind of rule that entitles us for a refund at least for our aditional transport and accomodation expenses...
