Fee for upgrading one segment?

Hello everyone,

So let's say I have a mixed-class award ticket, A-B in Y and B-C in F.
A-B segment doesn't have a C or F seat open.

In this case, would I be able to upgrade to C or F without a fee if the seat opens?
Or do I need to cancel (pay $50) or change ($150) and get reissued?
I think this is a relatively new issue, so I'd like to know if anyone has such an experience. Thanks.

Once the ticket is issued, it is the same as doing any other change.

don't forget that just because you cancel a ticket with an F seat on B-C, it doesn't mean the availability will come back
