I wouldn't bother with it. I made that mistake a month ago on a longer flight than yours for less money. It wasn't worth the extra money. Also, if Avianca accepts your offer, you won't earn any miles for the flight.

Avianca Paid upgrades

Has anyone experience any luck getting upgraded on AV85 or AV86 LAX-BOG-LAX?

My actually route will take me from

LAX to BOG to PTY

but I'm wondering if I'm able to upgrade, being that the flight from BOG to PTY is flown by AeroGal.

Got the email and a follow up email; Avianca slider is $300-$450 to upgrade the short, 2.5 hour hop from Cartagena to Miami on 1/3

Are they crazy? I'll still get a hot meal in the back. If it were $100 or maybe even $150 I'd think about it but hard to think they're going to get $300 to upgrade that short of a route

Yes, it's insane, especially considering the $2K business class fares from LAX-LHR/MAD/BCN.

They've clearly not yet learned how to properly monetize the front cabin

Yeah, received the same $300 MIN to $720 Max slider, not worth it for a 2 HR and 41 min flight, plus I already have club lounge access.

Got the email but minimums were not great:

LAX - BOG: $330
BOG - LAX: $330

Seems high when for $400 each way over my original ticket, I could just book it outright. First flight is still over a week away, so going to wait and see if they come down. Would be nice to get it for the way there, at least, since it's a red-eye.

If the offer is accepted. Do you earn the Y miles or do you get a new booking class for C and that miles.

Any experience with upgrades going MAD - BOG and back? I don’t feel like shelling out 2k for a biz class trip round trip, but I’d love to know whether I might have any shot at buying an upgrade at the airport or bidding via email. If so, any price range I should expect?

From experience I would say around 450 dollars minimum. Avianca upgrades are not a good value. You don’t get any extra miles either.
