Does anyone know if Lifemiles will waive cancellation fees for an award ticket due to COVID-19 concerns?
Unfortunately, barring an outright flight cancellation, Lifemiles will not waive cancel fees.
Just pay the $200 as a "self caution fee". (nobody is actually preventing you the passenger from flying as you booked).
In the future, it would be wise to invest in travel insurance.

Transferring Amex MR points will extend expiration of LM. Post #906 confirms this. Expiration date updates overnight, so wait 24 hours after the transferred miles have posted to LM.

LifeMiles' Star Alliance Award Chart

Cash & Miles redemptions: the price per mile purchased during award booking varies significantly depending on how many miles are purchased. The "sweet spots" are between 38% and 58% of the total mileage required, where miles are purchased for 1.5 cents. See here for some examples.

Beware of Cabotage: LifeMiles has been known to issue tickets that constitute Cabotage, and at least one instance of denied boarding has been reported, stranding the passenger. An example is travel on Avianca from LAX to SJU (via SAL/BOG). For additional information see the WIKI of this thread.

Miles Expiration Policy valid from April 15th , 2018.
  1. Any miles accrual transaction in a member´s account in the Program extends the validity of the miles in the account of such member for a term of twelve (12) months from the date of such accrual of miles. Other transactions that may affect the balance of miles in a member’s account, including redemption transactions, will have no effect on them and will not extend the validity of the miles in such account. This general rule will have the following exceptions that extend the validity of such miles in the account of such member for twenty-four (24) months from the date of such accrual: (i) any accrual of miles in a member´s account with an Elite Status at the time of the accrual; (ii) any accrual of miles derived from a cobranded credit or debit cards under the LifeMiles brand.
  2. ......the following accrual activities do not extend the validity of the miles in the member´s account: 1) the birthday bonus or any other miles bonus that may be given by the LifeMiles Program and LifeMiles LTD so establishes.; 2) the migration of points or miles from other loyalty programs to the LifeMiles Program made as a consequence of the union of both loyalty programs or the migration of one member from another loyalty program to the LifeMiles Program; and 3) the merger of accounts of the LifeMiles Program, including those derived from a member´s duplicate accounts.

Trying to decipher the LM T&Cs...

Do I understand correctly that you can NOT get free (s/a) upgrade on AV flights to/from Europe?

Anyone knows if Avianca let you advance your award flight schedule?
Example, if I have an Avianca Brazil flight at 1 p.m. I can advance it to fly on a flight at 9a.m. without additional costs, if there's availability at the day of travel.
If I'm flying Avianca Colombia, with and awarded ticket, is this possible too? I found avaialbility on the day I need at 7 p.m. only, but I really want to travel in the morning or right after launch...

Hi -- I thought AV flew the 787 JFK-BOG, but when I check next April it shows the A330. Anyone know why? Would much prefer lie-flat seats on the flight if possible...

New to FT, hoping you folks can help with a first question : Trying to do a mixed class booking with LM WLG-MEL-LAX, ANZ economy section first then UA business on the second (ANZ doesn't do business class WLG-MEL). Online LM tool wont show WLG to LAX availability, but individual sectors show available. Sent an email to LM Support with screenshots and passport details to ask for manual booking - first reply was along the lines of "not possible to do manual bookings in LifeMiles, try for other dates online or call the call center". I replied very politely to this stating that I knew it was possible to do manual bookings, and got a reply back (from the same person) saying not possible when they are mixed classes. What to do ? Give up and move on ?

SFO or LAX to YUL Air Canada

Is this bookable with Life Miles. Attempted on their site, have an account but no miles in it. Do I have to book by phone or can do online. Plan to buy miles with latest promotion, if makes sense.

You don't need to have miles to see whether it's bookable.

Is this a route that has been booked with LM previously? Maybe it's too far in advance to show?

you aren't giving any details. How should we know?
What is the problem in the first place? That you don't see availability? Or do you get an error message by the LM system?

Sorry, just says the route is not available on the LM site. SFO to YUL or LAX to YUL. Air Canada business non stop. Read about some long haul availability from Canadian airports to Europe using LM wondered if could due the same these routes. Date is May 25th

May 25th, 2017 is definitely not too far in the future. If LM shows no availability, I wouldn't expect that to change and buy miles. I would look for other ways to book.
(and has nothing to do with 0 miles on your account)

As noted, no manual bookings for mixed class awards. The better option is to book online. Enter start and end and view options online. A search via other sites will serve as a reference point to availability.

Thanks - yes, both sectors are available alright, but I can't book them as one itinerary (would be 80k miles plus relatively low NZ taxes). Instead would have to book WLG-MEL as one sector (21k miles plus NZ taxes) and then MEL-LAX (80k miles plus higher Oz taxes). Not that keen for 101k miles plus two sets of taxes, would sooner try for a ~$650 one-way economy ticket with AA and a SWU assuming that upgrade chances are reasonable - which they are at the moment. Would pay 80k LM though to avoid the upgrade lottery, but not 101k LM plus double taxes.

Yes - but the routing is via NRT and requires UA first NRT-SFO, so therefore 111k LM. Plus would have to pay cash I guess for the WLG-AKL and SFO-LAX sectors, hence overall quite a bit more expensive than WLG - MEL and MEL -LAX as separate tickets (in turn more expensive than AA cash plus SWU).
