NOTE: This thread has been superseded by the thread entitled LM F and J routes (and the occasional trick-it) Rebooted v2.0. Please follow the discussion there.

Region definitions
C1 North America
C1.5 Caribbean, Bermuda
C2 Europe
C2.5 Middle East
C3 Asia
C4 South America
C5 Africa
C6 Oceania

2X, 3X: in the context of this LifeMiles thread, 2X and 3X refer to any 2nd and 3rd legs of a one-way award ticket.

LifeMiles' Star Alliance Award Chart

Cash & Miles redemptions: buying the max (60%) isn't always the best deal (unless you're purchasing all miles right there). Check here for the best CPM.

Beware of Cabotage: LifeMiles has been known to issue tickets that constitute Cabotage, and at least one instance of denied boarding has been reported, stranding the passenger. An easily-seen example is travel on Copa from LAX to SJU (via PTY).

LM F and J routes (and occasional special routings)

OK, I'm starting a thread with F and J routes possible through the LM site. This is predominantly for those of us in non-hub areas where there are not a huge abundance of routes, and so there is somewhere LM specific to post coded "interesting finds".

I'm doing this because I'm a newbie to booking award flights so have spent a large number of hours manually trying to figure what routes can actually be booked through the search engine (such as MEL - anywhere in South America), and at times have assumed a certain route was not available at all just because nothing was showing up over the next 50 weeks.

If you are already an expert, please post; but please only in a constructive way (so not - "it is obvious you can't book MEL - anywhere in South America" unless you are explaining why).

I'm going to post in the following format from fares I have been able to find on the booking website - either past tense, or those still showing availability over the next year, showing who the F carriers are:

SYD to
HND: F (TG, TG & NH); J. NRT: F (TG); J. BKK: F (TG), J.

MEL to
JFK: F (UA), J. LAX (UA, UA & US); J. NRT: J. KUL: J. BKK: J. BJS: J. KTM: J. TAS: J. KHV: J. RNG: J.

...and so forth. I will update with many other routes after holiday festivities are done, and I've recovered from the busy lead up to Christmas.

I'm happy to take suggestions on the formatting or make the thread location specific, so as not to create a 'spam' area; but I think it may be a useful resource for those of us still a little green around the gills with LM award bookings, and to keep these posts out of other areas.

Oh, and yes, I do realise that some of the areas that I am categorising as only J may get F award availability later (and hope someone posts 'XYX - ABC' has F through airline Z), and that some that I have categorised F may no longer show F availability until more awards are released.

Cheers

Of course. Even I don't post juicy ones in an uncoded list like that.

And I should clarify, since I got a couple of PMs: yes, of course the above list is by no means an indication of what is not available. It only shows what I have seen, and I stopped at the first award I came into for any one airport. It is totally likely that other classes are available on other dates.

Sometimes going from EZE to the US you can be served Spätzle. Big savings if you desire just a single serving of it. Central America also offers significant savings to some US.

That's a good one, but only for those with very very flexible dates of journey. Thanks.

Also if get just a single serving of it, you may have some problems with the owner.

Gulab Jamun is an excellent optional dessert on flights from Europe to SIN/BKK/KUL.

Are you sure you dont mean from SIN to Europe?

Its a really tasty dessert, but I´ve no idea how to get some in SIN without travelling back to Europe.

Yes, Europe to SIN. If you don't finish the meal you won't get the dessert.

I had no idea how widely spread Gulab Jamun is.
