Avianca selling miles 2x1 (1.5cpm)

AviancaPlus members can buy 2x1 miles until 12/31/10.

http://www.avianca.com/Inicio/Navega...pra-Millas.htm

Log into AviancaPlus account and click on "Miles Purchase 2x1" link. Non members can create account onlilne.

You can buy 1000 miles for $30 USD and receive 2000 miles. Miles credit to account instantly ( I just tried it to be sure; purchased 1K miles for $30 and got 2K miles instantly )

This is a good way to get account balance to award level. Also a cheap way to fly in J.

Examples:

Zone 1: domestic CO, Aruba, Caracas, Curacao, Guayaquil, Lima, Panama, Quito, San Salvador, Santo Domingo

Zone 2: FLL, MEX, MIA, JFK, IAD

Zone 3: EZE, LAX, SCL, Sao Paulo

Zone 4: BCN, MAD

J reward between Zone 1 and 2 = 55K miles. Purchase 28K miles at $840
J reward between Zone 1 and 3 = 60K miles. Purchase 30K miles at $900
J reward between Zone 1 and 4 = 110K miles. Purchase 55K miles at $1650

J reward between Zone 2 and 3 = 90K miles. Purchase 45K miles at $1350
J reward between Zone 2 and 4 = 136K miles. Purchase 68K miles at $2040
J reward between Zone 3 and 4 = 140K miles. Purchase 70K miles at $2100

Flying J from JFK/MIA to LIM for $840 is a great deal!

Be patient with website, it's a little delicate and confusing. Buyers outside of Colombia should choose 1 as the Monthly Payments choice (quotas for payment)

I might try this, but the last time I used miles on AV, I was charged $328 for taxes on BOG-JFK-BOG. I know the taxes are a little higher from CO out. Most of the taxes are probably the set fees, BOG facilities, Customs, Plant inspection, and 911 fees and JFK fees. I am wondering if any of the fees bump with the J. I think the taxes would be about 70 less if it was a JFK-BOG-JFK run. right?

I guess I could check it out that way. Their IT department is lacking, so when changing days, you have to re-enter DEP and ARR cities etc...

Curious about taxes, I logged into my account and checked some sample routes. I only have enough miles for RT in Zone 1 or OW Zones 1&2. I checked MIA-LIM and it came to an astonishing $238 in fees ($190 surcharge)! Then I priced RT BOG-LIM in both Y and J and got:

travelers surcharges taxes
1 adult(s) x (81.00 + 120.48) = 201.48 USD

Too bad

Italian,
$175 in taxes for BOG-GRU. Not a deal.

Wish I could use miles to upgrade!

Basically, the only time I think of using miles is when I need a little flexibility. As a Ej Plat, you can change flights booked with miles much easier.

Nice little find......

Avianca has partners.

The surprising award is AIR FRANCE
US-Europe in J only 75K (vs. 100K using AF miles or 105K using DL miles)

Award levels for other partners Delta, Iberia are similar to the host FFPs.

Did you check for surcharges and availability on the partner lines?

What about YQ?

EDIT: Where can one see the partner award chart for Avianca? Also, their own award chart is not complete. LAX, EZE, SCL and GRU are in the same zone but there are no award requirements published between them. Seems like that award should not be very expensive.

Awards on AF: http://www.avianca.com/Inicio/Navega.../AirFrance.htm

on DL: http://www.avianca.com/Inicio/Navega...s/en/Delta.htm

on IB: http://www.avianca.com/Inicio/Navega.../en/Iberia.htm

Avianca miles now transfer straight to TACA's FFP, which allows redemptions on IB/UA/LH: http://www.taca.com/eng/dis/gtm/gtma...asp?id=28#ref2

Award chart on TACA's FFP looks decent: http://www.taca.com/eng/dis/uml/umla...asp?id=29#map2

Adam/ anyone else---

How much are taxes and fees on Avianca flights wholly within Colombia?

Is there any sort if "quick ticketing" fee for rapid redemption?

Does anyone have any experience redeeming a partner award through Avianca with an infant ticket (in lap)? Do you pay reduced mileage for the infant ticket (as is the case in Aeroplan) or do they make you pay 10% of the cash purchase price of an adult ticket (as is the case with US Airways)?
