Asiana reduces connection

Got an email, sms and call from Asiana. Our SIN-ICN flight tonight is delayed by 1:10 due to late arriving aircraft which means our 1:30 connection to KIX became 0:20 so they want to rebook us on the next flight which is only at 5PM instead of 8AM. So we will end up in ICN for some 9 hours. Revenue tickets in Y. Any thoughts or experience on what we can get from Asiana for this significant delay?

I would say free hotel, transportation, and meal voucher? A short tour of Icheon / Seoul for the night can be added here.

Is there a better option out of GMP? If so, require that they provide transportation.

What does the CoC say that they will provide? For nine hours in the daytime, my guess would be some meal vouchers since EC261 etc. wouldn't apply to this route. You could ask to be rebooked onto a flight operated by KE or some other carrier, but this is unlikely unless the delay wasn't ultimately caused by weather or ATC.

As mentioned above, you might be eligible to take a free bus tour of Seoul or similar offered by the airport. IIRC there are places on the higher floors on Terminal 1 at ICN offer some free cultural activities, but I've never explored these options. With nine hours, you should be able to leave the airport (train, subway, bus) and explore Seoul or Incheon city, but I don't know details of places to leave carry on luggage. It's a pretty nice airport, but nine hours without lounge access would be rough.

You might be able to pay a day rate to use the spa facilities at the GH ICN, which has good shuttle service to both terminals, although it's walkable from Terminal 1 and also has a monorail stop. It also has an interesting restaurant (reminiscent of the Hyatt in Singapore) with about a half dozen stations doing different types of food, but this could just be a more expensive and slightly more elegant version of what you can find at ICN. There are a couple things (restaurants, convenience store, new casino) walkable from the GH, but the area is rather boring. I've never investigated what else can be reached using the new monorail.

ADDED: I just noticed that you're *Gold so you should have lounge access of course, but don't expect a wonderful lounge.

contact OZ about what they can provide. depending on your booking class, OZ usually provides dayrooms, including a meal voucher at the new Howard Johnson hotel for connections over 8 hours. I stayed there on an STPC in January, and I was surprised at how decent the hotel was. Not quite as nice as Hotel Royal at Myeong Dong, but much better than the Incheon Best Western they used near the airport. It also helped that the hotel was new.
