To compare with KE...
Nothing similar for Gold level.....
KE is 30,000 miles on KE metal + 20,000 on partners/credit card to hit Morning Calm. Then two years you need to hit 20,000 on KE metal and 10,000 on partners/CC. So....Asiana Diamond?
The next level up is 500,000 miles on KE. So Diamond Plus?

Right but on KE the 30,000 is in a year whereas the 500,000 is lifetime.

Exactly my point. One can re-qualify for diamond status by flying 10k miles each year and earning 5k miles each year from the CC which seems way too low for *G although I'd love for it to be true.

OK, got, missed the "each year" as it's a 24 month status earning/requal period. Nice, but what bene's, besides the *A Gold benefits which is the reason I'm doing DIA on OZ, are worth doing it as I don't fly OZ?

It's not really *that* easy. If you're flying on discount economy fares, you can multiply that # by about 2.

Plus there are many fares especially on TG, that don't earn any miles, so you do need to watch carefully. My GF and I took UA over to OGG from SFO and it was 50% for her. My UA MP earnings weren't much more even as 1K. Looks like we'll just do an SQ PE BKK-SIN-LAX in March on their promo (US$1100) to complete our DIA status as we're at apx 26k each.

This is a very interesting development. My wife has I believe 2 Asiana cards in Korea (NH and another one), and I have one in the US (the Bank of America Visa one).
Charging $10k for each of them in a year or 2 years would definitely not be a problem.
Flying 10k / year too as I guess we do one trip to Korea per year.
I do agree with others that this might dilute the value of Asiana Diamond, but it is to be seen.
Maybe they are trying to capture the US market, Chase Sapphire apparently stopped the miles transfer to Korean Air, and Koreans in the US loved the card, and the airline.
However, I don't think that would be enough to steer that many people from the US.
