Asiana 777s future?

Hi

Some of OZ 777s are getting old and are not refurbished (at least in Y).
Do they plan to update the cabin of these birds or do they plan to withdraw them?
Also, does OZ plan to send their A350s to CDG?

Thanks

They took out the first class seats out of 777s a couple years ago. i do not think they'll refurbish the 777s. Asiana has already retired 3 of them. They'll probably retire more of the older ones

Asiana takes deliveries very slowly, thus the age of its 777s varies a lot. While the oldest in service is 14 years old, the newest (HL8284) is was delivered only in 2013 (it's one of the last 777-200ERs ever built). So not all 777s will be gone anytime soon.

Seriously. I think I'm done flying ICN-ORD. That Y cabin is in horrible shape.

That’s weird for a 5-star airline

Apologies for the semi-threadjack, but--how are the 777s in J? My A380 ICN-LAX just got swapped for a 777. Seatguru says the seats are slightly narrower, which is annoying, but other than that it's the same "Smartium" seat, correct? I still have an A380 outbound (at least for now), so I guess I'll get to do the compare/contrast.

Might beg to differ — flew JFK-ICN 4 times in Y this winter when they swapped the A380 for the 772 and didn't have any issue with the Y cabin — in fact probably would prefer it to the A380 lower deck since the 772 has 33-34" pitch while the A380 is at 32", and the older seats on the 772 are somewhat better padded than the new A380 ones. Granted the A380 has better IFE screens but you have the same limited selection so it doesn't really make a difference to me.

Hmm I see. My biggest beef probably *is* the IFE, so that could be why we had really different experiences. I've also only flown the A380 in J (but the 772 only in Y), so I can't compare them directly like you can.

Fair enough. That said I'd also take the A380 UD Y over the 772 any time. (Although one advantage of the 772 over the 380 UD is that even in Y you can still be among the first off the plane, whereas on the 380 you have to wait for the entire J cabin to disembark.) And I'm surprised that you actually can find something worth watching on the IFE

Also just checked my reservations and found out I was also a victim of the swap from A380 to 772 on LAX-ICN this winter... switched from row 71 to row 11 lol.

It looks like there are at least five different seating versions of 777s in operation. How often are the different versions swapped on the routes they fly?

14 years isn't particularly old for an airliner. The average age of DL's entire fleet is 14.3 years. There are major carriers still flying 744s that are nearly 30 years old.
zeer0 and Yreal like this.

There are no 5 versions of 777 in operation, should be just one if not 2, all should be 77L, the 2 77W HL8254 and HL8284 not sure if they had converted into 77L or not, but the other 2 3class HL7775 and HL7791 for sure had converted into 77L, then the other 3 oldest one had returned to the lessor already

That's a surprisingly rare occasion. Asiana finalizes detailed fleet usage 1-1.5 month before and after that, very little swapping.

They are all 77L now - all with Smarium business seats, all 2 class (22-24J 277-278Y), all AVOD. Some still has older Y seats (thick, 6.5" monitor) while some offers slim seats.

Are there any 6.5" monitor 777's left? I know some had touchscreen bigger ones on delivery and I also know some where updated to have A380 PTV's - are there still 6.5"ers left? Are they being replaced?
