The OZ A350's

Understand Asiana is about to receive some new A350's in 2017, but does anyone know the routes yet?

guarded, but expect tokyo-seoul routes to kick off the crew training phase.
i personally hope for australia routes to use these craft in the long run

I'm hoping for an IAD route, but not likely.

Revisiting this speculation and looking at how Asiana uses their 772s (likely to be replaced by 359s), North america seems more likely..

Waiting to hear about IAD/IAH on OZ.

IAH should be an must IMO if KE is just flying into IAH w/o an partner.

I assume most of their older 772s will be replaced by the A350s.

Looks like they take first delivery in April with two more later in 2017. A350xwb Production.

First batch will likely replace old or not refurbished fleets. There are two un-refurbished 772s that OZ tried to return to lessor last year - I think initial two A350 frames will replace them and fly to CDG. And then Asiana is slowly retiring 747s. Just retired one of two 744-combi about a month ago. No news regarding aging 767s as of yet but A350s (any variation) will eventually replace these fleets.

Usually in the mid-Feb, Asiana announces fleet change that includes both new deliveries and fleet-retirements.

Don't expect route announcements from Asiana for now. With a rapid rising of LCC, both Asiana and KE are struggling. Some analysts even predict that Asiana may not get A350s due to financial problems (which is an overreaction, I think).

Any seat map for the a350?

bobbybrown Feb 3, 2017 6:44 am

Asiana just announced 2017 fleet plan:

777 reduce by 2
747 reduce by 2 (including 1 74M that is already parked)
350 add 4
320/321 reduce by 3 (to Air Seoul or Air Busan?)
74F increase by 1

There will be small room that Asiana may add a destination or frequency, but most 350s will replace retiring fleets.

Also, from May, CDG and FCO will charge additional 10k for business, which means those routes will see full flat business class.

Damn, still no IAH than.

They cant even make a profit on current routes (for years, not just recently), why would they take a risk to start a new route ? That would be quite a stupid decision if they do it.

Actually I think they've been making money on their operations (the airline side of the business). I believe OZ took over a lot of toxic assets from the Kumho Asiana Group when it went under in '08 and that's probably what's causing them to lose money. They've been in the black for operating profits since 2014.

JamesBond_ppk Feb 5, 2017 3:22 am

Has there been any communication from OZ about the configuration of these aircraft?

Is there a slim chance for a First class cabin (4 or 8 seats) on the A350-1000 or even on the A350-900?

They're losing money on short haul in large part because they don't have enough long haul connecting traffic to fill their short haul flights. Starting more routes to NA is just what they need to do but they don't have the planes as of this moment.
