Miles Earned from Star Alliance

I've just flown CPH-NRT on SAS, booking class Z, and I'm unsure how Asiana has calculated what its credited me.

The SAS points chart (http://www.flysas.com/en/uk/eurobonu...points-charts/) shows class Z to Tokyo earns 9,000 miles.

Asiana's earning table (http://us.flyasiana.com/C/en/homepag...0&menuType=CMS) shows SAS Z class earns 125%.

They've credited me 7,043 miles. How have they calculated that?

That's 125% of the actual miles flown. What SAS credits to its own program has no bearing on OZ.

7043 miles sounds right to me as CPH-NRT is about 5000-6000 miles.

Mileage earning is based on the operating airline (earning table)

Note if a codeshare is booked then the earning class may differ from the sold booking class since a translation is applied between marketing airline and operating airline. E.g. if buy I on marketing airline X this may map to H on operating airline V.

gcmap.com can be used as a guide to flown distance (it won't necessarily be exact but is generally close to the distance used by airlines)

http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=cph-nrt 5427 mi so 125% is 6783 miles

Which still doesn't answer the question "how did they come up with 7043 miles?". On the other hand, they gave you more miles than expected, so I'd consider myself lucky.

Figures quoted in websites like gcmap or webflyer do not always 100% mesh with the airline's calculation. One big factor is that there is not only one available route particularly for longer flights, so it might be that the airline setting the standard flies a longer route (e.g. Korean Air avoiding the Ukraine for geopolitical reasons) I've found Asiana to generally be ever so slightly more generous than what shows up in those searches - though not with as big a margin as you describe.
