In my experience, AC, UA, and SK do not levy fuel surcharges. I have heard TK is also reasonable.

All LH partner airlines will have ridiculous surcharges so don't bother.

Where are you based? If you're in the US you can get a one-way domestic F ticket for 22.5k (or 27.5 for Hawaii)

Based in BNE. Brisbane, Australia. I will probably head to SE Asia and maybe the Japan region in Jan 2018. I initially only joined Asiana for the easy *G. I tend to fly Oneworld more often.

I have family in Europe, that could probably make use of the miles otherwise...

Are partner awards still bookable online? Can't seem to find it.

Also which partners do not charge YQ? So far I know of only UA, SQ and AC. How about ET and AI?

Interesting, but still Korea site. Can't wait for the US site to finally get this functionality.

Isn't there some deadline for Star members to provide online partner redemptions?

Wait I think I misunderstood the first time what you said lol.

I think they were planning to integrate a web-based redemption service for all *A members by the end of the year. I'm VERY glad that hasn't yet happened. It's terrible for those of us who know all the loopholes. Now, any kettle with a credit card sign up who doesn't know all the details will just be able to book space.

Just check the UA site. Whatever they show as "Saver Availability" will be available with OZ miles.

Ahh, well you can now search Star Alliance awards online, through the Korea website. It's a hassle though.

I took a look at MIA-ZRH on a random date and taxes/fees come out to $578 one way in J and $199 one way in Y.

I highly recommend only booking UA, AC, and SAS for Asiana rewards from US-Europe, especially if booking in J. They are the only ones that don't have fuel surcharges. The fees on these range from $50-150 one way in J vs $400-600.
