Asiana AMEX gone?
 

I tried to apply for Asian's AMEX today and the offer appears to be gone. Nobody could find it over at BofA and Asiana's website doesn't mention it any more. Could it be a website issue?

Oh, this very nice 2 miles/$ is gone......

The Amex is definitely gone for new apps. Haven't recieved anything about current users being discontinued. Please post if you get anything in the mail. This card has been a gold mine for miles for me. Too bad Asiana doesn't count all miles toward status, I'm way past a million miles of total miles earned.

OZ did away with the AMEX, but it seems that they signed a new partnership with Visa, offering 3 options: Visa Platinum Credit Card, Visa Credit Card and Visa Business Card.

All of the currently available cards earn 1 miles per $ spent on everything. The Amex earned 2 miles per $ spent on everything. Huge loss!

Weird, as a BofA Asiana AMEX holder, I've not heard anything from them and miles still seem to be posting. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed.

Was it an OZ decision or a BofA decision? In any case, OZ just became much less attractive to me. :td:

The Asiana Visa cards have been around before the AMEX card, so they aren't new. I had the Asian Platinum Visa before I jumped ship to the AMEX. The AMEX came about at the time when that lawsuit that allowed banks to finally issue AMEX cards because Visa/MC was restricting them.

I still haven't heard anything yet either, got my yearly 10K coupon and lounge access coupons a couple of months ago. They may just let the current users stay, who knows. This has been my main card for years now. Hard to beat a card that gives you a biz class trans-pac ticket with $52,500 worth of spend.

For the first couple of years, I was able to call and even get the $99 annual fee waived but when the Card Act was passed, they refused.

Still I was able to use a couple of tricks to get the annual fee back, so it's always been free for me.

Used this card to get 200,000 miles in a year using the $ coins. Only thing that stopped me is that they have a 200,000 yearly limit on miles earned....haha

I just spoke with BofA. As far as the CSR knows, the card will still give 2 miles per $1. No changes are expected. She did think that the card is no longer available to new applicants, but she suggested that I contact the sales department to get a definitive answer.

It's definitely disconntinued, you can't find a mention of it on the Asiana website at all.

They finally got around to make the benefits half decent. For the first couple of years, the lounge passes were useless when traveling with someone because you could only use it for yourself. I think this year they finally made it so you can bring a guest. Worked great for me since I lost Diamond cause I was grounded for the past 2 years. I can at least use the lounges in the US with the passes.

The bad was that to get the $100 annual rebate for buying a ticket. It always had to be purchased through Asiana, can't use a site like Travelocity which charges you in their name, not Asiana, so you wouldn't get the rebate. I always made sure to find a website that charged from Asiana directly when buying a ticket.

The best remaining card to earn 2 Star Alliance Miles per $ spent on everything is the Fidelity Investment Rewards American Express Card.

You do not need to open an investment account with Fidelity to earn reward points with their credit card.

Would travelocity give a lower fare? I always thought the airline website gave at least the same price.

Where are the details for the points conversion?

Hard to find but published in various Flyertalk threads and around the internet.

You get 2 BofA Worldpoints for every dollar spent.

You can have this automatically converted and transfered to a Fidelity account.

OR you can use those Worldpoints just like any other. i.e. transfer them to Aeroplan.
