Unfortunately I could not get a SYD-LAX direct biz award flight through Lufthansa Miles & More.

So I have been routed SYD-ICN-LAX-ICN-SYD with Asiana.Of these 4 legs only ICN-LAX is lie-flat.

Anyhow I am grateful to be accepted as an award passenger with Asiana & it will be my first experience with them.

We have done the same thing twice now. Have used United miles for upgrade on Asiana... once LAX-ICN-SYD and back, and then SFO-ICN-DEL and back. At the times we needed to travel, Asiana had the best upgrade award availability.

Service on Asiana is very good. Catering on the LAX legs will be better than SYD, though. At least that was the case on our trip.

booked on OZ735, the SQ map is showing it's being served by a 3 class plane, I booked myself into F, we're coming off of F from JFK, does anyone know how accurate the SQ mobile app is over seatguru?

OZ735 mostly has a 777-200ER flying on this route. The issue is that there are up to 4 different cabin configurations for the 777s in OZ's fleet. You can take a look here to see recent flight history for this route.

Just for reference:

HL7791 - Old 3 class. No QS.
HL7775 - Old 3 class. No QS.
HL8254 - New 3 class, First Suite, QS.
HL8284 - New 3 class, First Suite, QS.
HL7756 - 2 class, QS.

then the occasional A330:

HL7792 - 2 class, No QS.

Note: Someone correct me if I am wrong on the cabin layouts.

I've seen them use the 777s with Suites on that route. It's not something they do everyday but a few times a week. Just don't be surprised by an equipment change.

Is there a list anywhere of Asiana's various 777 by aircraft and what their configuration is (i.e. 2 class vs 3 class; QS vs non)?

I just tried to figure it out for myself, based on the fleet listing here and Asiana's online seatmaps (which are, however, riddled with errors, and seem to have been entered by someone who can't count).

Some of the information conflicts slightly, but as best as I could figure out, this is the status of the 777 fleet...

All four of the 3-class aircraft are QS-equipped:
2
  • x 3-class (8 new F / 24 QS J / 214 Y): HL8254 and HL8284
  • 2x 3 class (8 old F / 28 QS J / 226 Y): HL7775 and HL7791

Three of the eight 2-class aircraft are QS-equipped:
  • 2 class (either 22 QS J / 272 Y or 24 QS J / 271 Y): HL7739, HL7756 and HL7755

Five of the eight 2-class aircraft remain with the old, sloping-flat C:
  • 2 class (28 old J / 271 Y): HL7500, HL7732 and HL7700
  • 2 class (28 old J / 272 Y): HL7597 and HL7596

Then I remembered that I had asked this question a little while ago - oops! - and ORDnHKG helpfully provided this post, which is probably from a far more authoritative source, and actually listed the 777 fleet as follows:

2 class non-QS

HL7596 28/271-272
HL7597 28/271-272
HL7500 28/271-272

2 class QS

HL7700 22/272
HL7732 22/272
HL7739 24/271
HL7742 24/271 (gone)
HL7755 24/271
HL7756 24/271

3 class non-QS

HL7775 8/28/226
HL7791 8/28/226

3 class QS

HL8254 8/24/214
HL8284 8/24/214

I'm flying J class SFO-ICN-SYD on Feb 17. When I called Asiana for seat assignments, they gave me seat 3C ICN-SYD (meaning non-QS). That's one way to find out

So which one of the two lists is correct now?

I would suggest ignoring mine, since I have no idea how accurate the planespotters.net information is. The exercise did make me realise how many mistakes there are on Asiana's website, though...

The key thing of interest for me is whether we'll see QS in SYD any time soon, but the answer to that would appear to be a resounding 'no'.

How do I find out which 777-200 OZ uses on ICN-SYD?

Looking at the May 4th OZ601 ICN-SYD, will I be able to find out which 777-200 version OZ uses?

We are already on the not so nice OZ201 LAX-ICN with the old angled seats coming in on a separate award booking.

Trying to add a side trip ICN-SYD-HKG-ICN but weary of getting another crappy old angled seat again, especially the date is a day later than the optimal date.

Any way to find out? TIA.

you're almost guaranteed non qs on syd. last time i checked, the only time qs flew was a random swap once in the past thirty days.

if you don't have qs then seat map will be 2-3-2 vs 1-2-1 on qs
