Blackout Dates for *A Awards as well?
I can't see to find this anywhere - are the blackout dates just for Asiana awards or do they apply to *A awards as well?
|
Well according to Asiana's *A redemption website it states:
"Blackout periods may apply and will be determined by each individual Star Alliance carrier." So I guess you can try to book your award ticket and see if it goes through? |
Gotcha, but the Asiana dates don't apply, correct?
|
You're correct. Partners have different blackout dates if they have. If you dates is within Asiana's blackout season, you can get partner's award seat with the same redemption rate (that is zone-based).
|
Rock on! Thank you both!
|
Actually I found this from the UA website. I'm not sure if it apples to Asiana though, but Asiana is listed.

Asiana blackout dates apply on all Asiana flights regardless of the FFP used. In other words, I can not use my CO or LH miles to book an OZ award during the blackout period either. The only way to fly OZ blackout dates is to either pay double OZ miles or have the status to get this waived.

They are only twisting the wording. Since OZ magic miles give out very little elite bonus (5%-20% vs *A partners 100%), one is already very hard to earn enough OZ miles to redeem awards. With higher mileage require for those dates, it is almost no difference than blackout dates, as one would not have enough miles to redeem in the first place.

In the past those dates were blackout dates for all other frequent flyer programs. So you couldn't book a OZ flight with any other miles but double OZ miles during those peak periods.

Is this still the case? Or has it been changed ever since?
