Kuala Lumpur to Singapore Bus or Train?

I'm hoping to travel from KL to Singapore in a few days. I'm considering either taking a bus or train. Which would be the best option in terms of comfort and price? Thanks!

I did the overnight train about 5 years ago both ways.

It was a good way of saving on accommodation. Train was comfortable enough, sort of like Thai trains (non-compartment). It was all good but for the very early morning (6am) arrival into Singapore and fact you had to get out and all your stuff for immigration and then back on the train. On the return, you complete Malaysian immigration at the station before departure in Singapore (apparently technically, the rail line is Malaysian territory)

I remember if you booked your train on the ktmb site, you paid in RM for your journey which at the time was cheaper than paying in SGD

Generally the bus is a better choice: more frequent, faster, more comfortable and usually cheaper too. Try a search in the Singapore forum, there are lots of companies but Aeroline and Transtar are probably the best of the bunch.

Would second the bus recommendation, especially if it's one of the 24-seat VIP buses. Those are very pleasant.

Bus is definitely faster. But train is more convenient. When travelling KUL-SIN, you donlt have to get off the train in JB. You have to get your stuff off the train only at Woodlands check point. You stilll have to take your stuff off at the check point even if you are traveling by bus. The night train in 1st class sleeper is a pretty good option.

Bus = 6 hours. Train = even longer. Has the OP looked at flying Air Asia or JetStar to get back to Changi? Tickets have been really cheap since the SIN-KUL route was opened up. :D

I went from Sin to KL about 10 days ago. Went to the train station to find out that there were no tickets available.
Then went to Golden Mile Komplex on Beach road. There are many travel agents. I shopped around a little bit and was quoted anything between 35 and 59 S$.

Settled for the 35$ one since I couldn't really understand the pricing difference.

The bus was the most comfortable one I have ever been on. An 18 seater with fully reclinable seats. It took little over 6 hours all in all. (Started in SIN at 1 pm and arrived in KL about 7 pm)
I had a (rich) friend with me who, on it's own would never ever consider anything but a flight, and he said he enjoyed it.

Highly recommendable.

Thanks for all the replies. I decided to head to Melaka for a couple days. KL to Melaka was 12RM and Melaka to SIN is 22RM. The KL to Melaka ride was pretty decent. Nothing spectacular, but totally acceptable.

I went on the bus last year and it was very comfortable, if you are going from the malaysian side it is a lot cheaper

The bus usually costs more in the SIN-KUL direction, than the reverse.

From KUL we took the bus from the old train station, close to the Hilton this summer. About 6 hours. It left you off at some hotel on the outskirts of SIN, though, so make sure you know where you're going. Cost was about $12, I think.
