Pacific Airlines
Just noticed the Pacific Airlines office in Tainan City. Vietnamese airline company offers flights to/from Taiwan. Reasonable rates but we have never heard of them.
What are they like? Are the safe? I am assuming they are a low cost, no frills type of operation. I'm I correct? Might be the most convienent flight plan for a quick holiday for us. |

No problems with them; it seemed like your basic no-frills budget carrier. |
Pacific is fine. Internal flight prices are pretty much pegged to VNA prices. This is to ensure a "fair market" !
VN Airlines has a controlling stake. A VNA insider told me that the policy was to keep Pacific as it is - so that it creates the illusion of competition - but never allow it to threaten the nation's flag carrier. She thinks if they are eventually forced to allow competition on internal routes from outside operators they'll wind up Pacific. EVA has pushed in the past - they had plans for an additional service SGN/TPE stopping in HAN, but were refused. Twice since then they've started a HAN/TPE service only to withdraw it. No problems with Pacific as far as I can see. One perk was that on the SGN/HAN run, the fare included bus transfer (or bus pickup going back). But we're talking about those little minibuses crammed full... |
