If you are married to a Thai national and live overseas, there is a way that you can finally see what life is like on the other side of the notorious Thai double pricing system.

According to Cheap flights to Thailand Thai Airways offers special fares to Thais and their families to travel to Thailand from some countries. Up to 50% off the advertised fares in some cases.

Good deal if you can get it. :)

These deals are often available to anyone legally resident in Thailand also. A work permit and current Non-Imm B visa gets you many of the deals also. I am not married to Thai - but can avail myself of some of these bargains too.

This was true also when I lived in Botswana - many southern Africa countries offered discounts to legal residents of the area. I would guess that it would be true of many other places too.

I'd love to hear about any such faies available for sale in the U.S. or posted on a U.S. website.

Appears to be a rather serious violation of American Civil Rights law.

Thai nationals only (must have a Thai ID card).

Discount is quite small, on the order of 5% or less.

Good only on TG domestic flights, only on certain days of the week (Tuesdays for sure).

Limited to certain economy fare classes.

Speaking of notorious double and triple pricing schemes, what's up with these different prices for children and seniors in the U.S.?

I think I'll sue . . . Could be a violation of Thai civil rights laws.

... and in Hawaii, there are the infamous „Kamaaina Rates“, huge discounts for local residents on hotels and activities.

As for the TG ethnic rates called “Sawasdee Fare” in my country, I’ve never used them so far. They offer some advantages (longer maximum stay, 10kg more luggage) but they are more expensive than market fares. I just wonder where to find the “up to 50% off” mentioned by the OP.

My wife has used the fare out of Japan for close to 50% of the published rate. It does vary though. There have been times when she can only get about 15% off.

Also, as mentioned by BiggestBopper, someone did sue, hence the much smaller discounts in the US.

Actually, the California Courts have considered this issue. Lower pricing for Seniors is okay under California law. I suspect nationality/racial discrimination would not be treated so kindly.
